The Queen Elizabeth Stakes, first known as Queen's Plate (1854-1872), and then by various other names at different times in its history (Queen's Cup, Flemington Plate, Canterbury Plate, C.B. Fisher Plate), is an Australian horse race run in Melbourne, Victoria.

It is a registered Victoria Racing Club Group 3 Thoroughbred horse race for horses aged three years old and over, under quality handicap conditions, over a distance of 2,600 m (1.6 mi) at Flemington Racecourse on the last day of the VRC Spring Carnival in early November. [1] Total prize money is A$300,000.

High Caste was a Thoroughbred racehorse and stallion that was bred in New Zealand and was considered the best two-year-old in New Zealand after winning three of his four race starts. The VRC Stakes day, is the final day of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival at Flemington Racecourse. Stakes Day is held on the Saturday directly following Melbourne Cup Day. The 'Stakes' were first run in 1881 as the Coburg Stakes. In 2016 the LKS Mackinnon Stakes was moved from the VRC Victoria Derby day and renamed to the Emirate Stakes. The original "Stakes" were in turn moved to the first day of the carnival and renamed as the Longines Mile.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ajax II</span> Australian-bred Thoroughbred racehorse

Ajax was a champion Australian bred Thoroughbred racehorse and sire, who won 18 consecutive races before he was defeated at the odds of 40/1 on, causing a huge racing sensation. He had wins from 5 furlongs (1,000 metres) to 1½ miles (2,400 metres), equalled the Australasian record for a mile (1,600 metres), and created three new race records. At stud in Australia, Ajax proved to be a good sire. He was then sold as a 14-year-old horse and exported to the United States before he was later sold to Bing Crosby and Lin Howard. Ajax was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2004.

The VRC C.B. Fisher Plate was a weight-for-age thoroughbred horse race over 2400 metres. It was run at Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne Australia on the Saturday after the Melbourne Cup in early November from 1870 till 1978. It is no longer held.
