Warrior was an Australian bred Thoroughbred racehorse that won the 1869 Melbourne Cup at odds of 20/1. [1]

Warrior raced 66 times for 27 wins which also included victories in the 1871 Melbourne Stakes and the 1873 Australian Cup. In 1873 the horse broke his shoulder and was destroyed while racing at Home Rule, New South Wales. [2]

Makybe Diva British-bred Australian Thoroughbred racehorse

Makybe Diva is a British-bred, Australian-trained Thoroughbred racehorse who became the first horse to win the Melbourne Cup on three occasions. In 2005, she also won the Cox Plate. Upon her retirement from racing in November 2005, Makybe Diva was the highest stakes-earner in Australian horse racing history, finishing with winnings of more than A$14 million. She is one of only five horses to have won the Cup more than once, and the only mare among the list of multiple winners. She is also one of only 14 female horses to have won the Cup.

Kiwi was a New Zealand Thoroughbred racehorse who in 1983 won both the Wellington Cup in New Zealand and the Melbourne Cup in Australia. Subzero ("Subbie") is a Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 1992 Melbourne Cup. Trained by Lee Freedman and ridden by veteran jockey Greg Hall, the four-year-old revelled in the rain-affected going to defeat the favourite Veandercross and the two-miler Castletown. Known as the Coalfields Champion from Newcastle, Rogilla raced during a vintage era of the Australian turf. He won in each of the six seasons that he raced as a three-year-old to an eight-year-old. Rogilla was an outstanding galloper in Sydney and Melbourne on wet or dry tracks recording 26 wins from 4½ furlongs to 2 miles with regular jockey Darby Munro winning 16 races.

Protectionist is a Thoroughbred racehorse bred and trained in Germany. He was bred by Christoph Berglar, and owned by Berglar in conjunction with an Australian syndicate. Protectionist was the winner of the 2014 Melbourne Cup, ridden by Ryan Moore and trained by Andreas Wöhler, and became the first German-trained horse to win the race.
