The Queensland Expatriate Awards, are the most prominent awards to expatriates from the state of Queensland Australia who are living around the world.

Awarded annually by the Queensland Government since 2005, it is a chance to give the Premier of Queensland an opportunity to formally award and recognize the efforts of those individuals, whose work internationally has brought benefit to the State of Queensland, and promote and celebrate Queensland’s success on the international stage. Premier of Queensland's Expatriate Achievement Award

This Award is presented to prominent Queensland expatriates to acknowledge their high levels of achievement in their chosen profession and who are strong ambassadors of the State of Queensland worldwide. [1]

Queensland - United States Personal Achievement Award

This Award is to recognize prominent Queenslanders who have achieved high levels of success in their chosen field in the United States without having the need to permanently relocate from Australia.

Steve Irwin Memorial Goodwill Ambassador Award

This award is to honour arguably Queensland’s greatest cultural and goodwill ambassador, Steve Irwin. The award is awarded to individuals that share Mr. Irwin’s enthusiasm and legacy for making a difference in the world with pursuits that brings benefit to the State of Queensland.

Julie Maree Attwood is a Labor politician who was the Member of the Queensland Parliament for Mount Ommaney from 1998 until she stood down at the 2012. She served as a Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Child Safety during the last year of Peter Beattie's term as Premier, and was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer by Anna Bligh after she took power in September 2007. When the Bligh Ministry was reshuffled following Labor's re-election at the 2009 election, Attwood was made Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Disability Services and Multicultural Affairs, and became she Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health in February 2011.

The Tugun Bypass is a 7.5-kilometre-long (4.7 mi) stretch of motorway-grade road, bypassing through the suburb of Tugun on the Gold Coast, in Queensland, Australia. The speed limit on the Tugun bypass is 100 kilometres per hour (62 mph) and provides a high-speed motorway link between the Gold Coast and northern New South Wales, separating interstate vehicles from local traffic. There is a 334-metre (1,096 ft) tunnel under the extension to the Gold Coast Airport runway. The bypass connects directly to the Pacific Motorway between the Stewart Road interchange at Currumbin and the Tweed Heads Bypass north of Kennedy Drive. Opened in 2008, it has significantly relieved traffic congestion on the Gold Coast Highway corridor. The Tugun Bypass carries the M1 designation and is officially called the "Pacific Motorway". The Tugun bypass has two vehicle lanes in each direction, with provision for widening to three lanes in the future.

John Mickel (politician) Australian politician

Reginald John Mickel is an Australian politician. He was the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland and the Labor member for Logan until the 2012 election. He was succeeded by Fiona Simpson as Speaker, as he did not contest the 2012 election.

Frederick Warren Pitt is an Australian politician. He was a Labor member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 1989 to 1995 and 1998 to 2009.

There have been 97 women in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland since its establishment in 1860. Women have had the right to vote in the Assembly since 1905 and the right to stand as candidates since 1915.

Anna Bligh was sworn in as Premier of Queensland on 13 September 2007 with her first ministry, replacing Peter Beattie, who had retired from politics, and his ministry. She subsequently won the 2009 state election with a reduced majority against the newly merged Liberal National Party of Queensland. Shortly thereafter, on 26 March 2009, Bligh reshuffled the ministry. She conducted a second reshuffle on 21 February 2011. Following her party's loss at the 2012 state election, she soon resigned as Premier to make way for the Newman Ministry.

A by-election was held for the seat of South Brisbane in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland on 28 April 2012, the same day as local government elections, following the decision of former Premier Anna Bligh to retire from politics. Jackie Trad retained the seat for the Labor Party.
