The Rajya Sabha or Council of States is the upper house of the bicameral Parliament of India. As of 2021 it has a maximum membership of 245, of which 233 are elected by the legislatures of the states and union territories using single transferable votes through Open Ballot while the President can appoint 12 members for their contributions to art, literature, science, and social services. The potential seating capacity of the Rajya Sabha is 250, according to article 80 of the Indian Constitution. Members sit for staggered terms lasting six years, with elections every year with about a third of the 233 designates up for election every two years, in even-numbered years. The Rajya Sabha meets in continuous sessions, and unlike the Lok Sabha, being the lower house of the Parliament, the Rajya Sabha, which is the upper house of Parliament, is not subjected to dissolution. However, the Rajya Sabha, like the Lok Sabha can be prorogued by the President.

Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa is a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament of India. He is the President of Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) political party, which is formed by the merger of Shiromani Akali Dal (Democratic) and Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali) lead by him and Ranjit Singh Brahampura respectively. He used to be a member of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) political party until tensions rose inside the SAD Political Party. He was the first elected Secretary of Ranbir College Students' Council and subsiquently elected as the president of council too. Later he was elected as Managing Director of District Cooperative Bank, Sangrur. In 1972 Dhindsa won Dhanaula Assembly Contiuency seat as an independent candate and later joined Shiromani Akali Dal under the guidance and motivation of Sant Harchand Singh Longowal. He again elected as an MLA from Sunam on Shiromani Akali Dal ticket and induced as Minister of State holding the portfolios of Transport, Sports, Tourism, Cultural Affairs and Civil Aviation. In 1980 he again re elected to Punjab Vidhan Sabha from Sangrur seat. In 1985 he became MLA from Sunam. Later in 1986 differences brew in Surjit Singh Barnala's Govt. on the issue of Operation Black Thunder and Dhindsa choose to go with the faction of Parkash Singh Badal in reteliation to operation black thunder. He was previously a member of 14th Lok Sabha of India, representing the Sangrur constituency of Punjab. He has been awarded the Padma Bhushan in the Awards list of 26 January 2019. However, he returned it in December 2020 during the farmer protests.
Dr. Narayan Singh Manaklao is a noted social worker of India and was member of the Rajya Sabha, by nomination during August 2003 to August 2009. He is also a recipient of the Padma Bhushan award. He was born in Jodhpur district of Rajasthan in 1942.

Rajkumar Dorendra Singh, also known as R. K. Dorendra Singh was a senior Indian politician and a former Chief Minister of NorthEastern Indian state of Manipur. In the past, he represented a number of political parties; currently he was with Manipur People's Party. He was a member of the Indian National Congress (INC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and a few other parties earlier. He was the Chief Minister of Manipur from 6 December 1974 to 16 May 1977, again from 14 January 1980 to 27 November 1980, and from 8 April 1992 to 11 April 1993.
Sanjaya Sinh is an Indian politician and a former member of the Rajya Sabha. He was twice elected to the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh during the 1980s and held state ministerial posts. In 1990, he became a member of the upper house of the Parliament of India, which is known as the Rajya Sabha, and in 1998 he was elected to the lower house, called the Lok Sabha. His term in the 12th Lok Sabha session lasted until the following year. 2020 Rajya Sabha elections is the set of indirect elections by the members of State legislatures of India, to elect new members to fill vacancies in the Rajya Sabha – the upper house of the Parliament of India. The elections are held annually and throughout the year on an ad hoc basis. The elections in 2020 are for a total of 73 seats of which 55 of them were to be elected by March 26. The remaining were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Election Commission of India later announced all the elections for the remaining 24 Rajya Sabha seats were to be held on 19 June 2020.
