R. Kannan (born Rajmohan on 21 July 1971) is an Indian filmmaker. [1] He made his directorial debut with the successful Tamil film Jayamkondaan starring Vinay Rai and Bhavana in 2008.
Kannan started his career assisting director Manobala before joining Mani Ratnam for films including Kannathil Muthamittal (2002), Ayutha Ezhuthu (2004) and Guru (2007). He made his directorial debut with the drama film, Jayamkondaan (2008) starring Vinay, Bhavana and Lekha Washington, winning critical acclaim and commercial success at the box office. Featuring the story of an estranged brother and sister fighting over an ancestral property, Kannan won praise for his work. Sify.com stated that Kannan "has the potential to churn out a neat feel-good entertainer", adding that "the most refreshing thing about Kannan's film is that he tries to combine mainstream Tamil film aesthetics with mass appeal". [2] His second film, Kanden Kadhalai , a remake of Imtiaz Ali's Jab We Met (2007), featured Bharath and Tamannaah Bhatia in the lead roles and was also successful commercially. His subsequent releases Vandhaan Vendraan with Jiiva and Taapsee Pannu, and the remake of Delhi Belly in Tamil as Settai with Arya.
After the release of Settai, Kannan began pre-production works on a film titled Alangaram to be produced by PVP Cinemas during early 2014. He revealed that he had worked on the script for over two years and began negotiations with Karthi to play the lead role and Santhanam to portray a supporting role. [3] [4]
In October 2014, Kannan announced that he would direct and co-produce a film titled Poda! Aandavane En Pakkam, which would highlight the struggles faced by engineering degree graduates. After unsuccessful negotiations with Dinesh and Sridivya, Kannan eventually finalised Vishnu, Prayaga Martin and Swetha Ashok for the leading roles. [5] [6] The film began production in March 2015, with the team shooting for a single schedule and songs in Chennai with the lead actors. However the film failed to progress beyond the first schedule and was ultimately shelved. [7] Kannan announced that he was simultaneously working on the script of a horror comedy titled Adiye Kantha in December 2014, but the film also did not materialise. [8] In August 2016, he began work on an action film titled Ivan Thanthiran starring Gautham Karthik in the lead role.

Karthika Menon, better known by her stage name Bhavana, is an Indian actress who predominantly appears in Malayalam and Kannada language films in addition to Tamil and Telugu films. She is the recipient of two Kerala State Film Awards and a Filmfare Award.

Santhanam is an Indian actor and producer who mainly works in Tamil cinema. Beginning his career as a comedian on television, he rose to fame through his performances in STAR Vijay's Lollu Sabha enacting the lead role in spoofs of Tamil films. He was subsequently given a chance by actor Silambarasan to feature in a supporting role in Manmadhan (2004) and then was signed on to appear in a host of films, notably winning good reviews for his work in Sachien (2005) and Polladhavan (2007). He appeared in a one-off leading role in Shankar's production Arai En 305-il Kadavul (2008) and became a staple feature as a comedian in successful Tamil films during the period, with his market popularity helping stuck films find distributors.
Vinay Rai is an Indian actor who primarily appears in Tamil films. He is best known for his performance in the films Unnale Unnale (2007), Jayamkondaan (2008), Endrendrum Punnagai (2013) and Aranmanai (2014). He turned villain in Thupparivaalan (2017) and has played negative roles in several films including Doctor (2021), Etharkkum Thunindhavan (2022) and Christopher (2023).
Lekha Washington is an Indian actress, artist, and product designer who has predominantly appeared in Tamil and Telugu language films. She was first recognised for her work as a sculptor in 2002 and then as a theatre actress in Chennai based stage plays. After appearing as a video jockey with SS Music, Washington's breakthrough film role was as an independent estranged sister in Jayamkondaan (2008), whilst she has gone on to portray roles in the multi-starrer Vedam and the comedy Va.

It stars Vinay Rai, Bhavana and Lekha Washington while Vivek, Santhanam, Kishore, Vasundhara Kashyap, Malavika Avinash, and Nizhalgal Ravi, among others, play supporting roles.
Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez is an Indian film editor from Tamil Nadu. He was introduced to cinema through film director Gautham Vasudev Menon by the film Kaakha Kaakha (2003). He continued to collaborated with Gautham V. G. Dhananjayan (GD) is an Indian film producer, distributor, columnist, author of four books on Indian films and founder-director BOFTA Film Institute. Settai (transl. Mischief) is a 2013 Indian Tamil-language black comedy film directed by R. Kannan. A remake of the 2011 Bollywood English-language film, Delhi Belly, it stars Arya, Hansika Motwani, Anjali, Santhanam and Premji. The film, which began filming in Chennai on 7 May 2012, released for April 2013. The audio was launched on 30 January. The film released on 5 April 2013.
Vaalu is a 2015 Indian Tamil-language romantic action comedy film written and directed by debutante Vijay Chandar. The film stars Silambarasan and Hansika Motwani, with Santhanam, VTV Ganesh and Brahmanandam portraying supporting roles. The film was produced by S. S. Chakravarthy under the banner NIC Arts. S. Thaman composed the music while Sakthi and T. S. Suresh handled the cinematography and editing respectively.
Nambiyaar is a 2016 Tamil language comedy film written and directed by Ganeshaa in his directorial debut. It stars Srikanth and Sunaina in the lead roles alongside Santhanam as the title character. Produced by Srikanth's home production Golden Friday Films and independent producer, Haresh Vikram Vijayakumar (Malaysia), the film is named after the veteran actor M. N. Nambiar, who was famous for his villainous roles in yesteryear Tamil cinema.
Valeba Raja is a 2016 Indian Tamil-language romantic [comedy film]]. It was directed by Sai Gokul Ramanath and produced by Murali. The film stars Sethu, Vishakha Singh and Nushrat Bharucha, while Santhanam also essays a pivotal role. The film began production in June 2013 and was released on 25 March 2016 to negative reviews from critics.
Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham is a 2014 Indian Tamil-language action comedy film directed by Srinath and released by Studio Green on 9 May 2014. A remake of S. S. Rajamouli's successful Telugu film Maryada Ramanna (2010) which was based on Buster Keaton's Our Hospitality (1923), the film was jointly produced by PVP Cinema and Santhanam, who also played the lead role in it, alongside newcomer Ashna Zaveri. The music was composed by Siddharth Vipin.

The film stars Vimal, Priya Anand and Soori, while Nassar, Anupama Kumar and Thambi Ramaiah form the supporting cast and D. Imman composes the film's music. The film was released on 7 November 2014.
