Attingal is a municipality in Thiruvananthapuram metropolitan area in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala state,India. It was the location of the Attingal kingdom,under Travancore. It is the headquarters of Chirayinkeezhu Taluk,and the important government institutions of the taluk such as the Taluk office,court complex,office of the deputy superintendent of Police,civil station,and treasuries are situated in Attingal. It is one of the oldest municipalities of Kerala which was constituted prior to its independence in 1924. In 1914 itself Attingal Town Improvement Authority (TIA) was formed which was the term used before the municipality regulation act of 1922. Attingal Town is located 25 kilometres (16 mi) north of Thiruvananthapuram. Attingal is the 3rd densely populated municipality in the district.

Padayatt Kesavapillai Vasudevan Nair,popularly known as PKV,was an Indian politician and lawyer who served as the 7th Chief Minister of Kerala from 1978 to 1979. He was a Member of the Lok Sabha from 1957 to 1971 and again from 2004 until his death in 2005. He became Chief Minister on 29 October 1978,following A. K. Antony's resignation as Chief Minister. However he resigned on 7 October 1979 owing to differences with other parties in the United Front. He served in the Kerala Legislative Assembly from 1977 to 1982. Nair was a senior member of the Communist Party of India.

Veliyam Bharghavan was a Communist leader from the Kerala,India. He was the state Secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI) from 1998 to 2010. In 2010 he retired from that position due to his health issues. He hails from Veliyam village of Kollam district. He was an advocate of a merger between CPI and Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM). He was a member of the first Legislative Assembly of Kerala,winning the 1957 and 1960(interim) assembly elections from the Chadayamangalam Constituency. He died on 18 September 2013 aged 85 due to respiratory and cardiac problems.

R. Selvaraj was a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing Neyyattinkara constituency,Thiruvananthapuram,Kerala,India. He was a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist),the present ruling party in Kerala but resigned from the Kerala Legislature and the party on 9 March 2012 and joined Indian National Congress party. His resignation was attributed to rampant factionalism in his party. After joining the Indian National Congress,he contested the by-election from Neyyattinkara on "Hand" symbol and romped home with a margin of 6,334 votes,pushing up the ruling UDF's slender majority in the 140-member Kerala Assembly to 73. He again contested from the same constituency in 2016 and 2021. but he got defeated in both elections,i.e. for 9543 votes in 2016 and it increased to 14262 votes in 2021. He was defeated by K. Ansalan of CPI(M) in both elections.
