R. S. Kushwaha is an Indian politician from the Lakhimpur constituency of Uttar Pradesh. R. S. Kushwaha is currently a member of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and has previously held the post of the national general secretary of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). [4] [5] He has also served as the president of the Uttar Pradesh state unit of the party during the time of Alliance between Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party. He defected to SP in October,2021. [6] He was the member of the 14th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh and a member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 2010 to 2016. [2] [7] [8] He also contested the 15th Lok Sabha Elections against congress chief Sonia Gandhi from Rae Bareli constituency. [9]

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is a national level political party in India that was formed to represent Bahujans, referring to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes (OBC), along with religious minorities. According to Kanshi Ram, when he founded the party in 1984, the Bahujans comprised 85 percent of India's population, but were divided into 6,000 different castes. The party claims to be inspired by the philosophy of Gautama Buddha, B. R. Ambedkar, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Narayana Guru, and Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj.
