Rabindranath Mukherjee also known as R N Mukherjee (born 19 April 1953, at Tribeni, Hooghly; West Bengal, India) is an Indian former chemistry professor who is an elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy. Mukherjee holds an M.Sc. (Specialization in Inorganic Chemistry) from The University of Burdwan (1976), West Bengal, India obtained his PhD from The Rajabazar Science College, University of Calcutta (1983) working in the laboratory of Prof. Animesh Chakravorty, the then Head, Department of Inorganic Chemistry, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Calcutta (now Kolkata). After spending two years in the same laboratory as a post-doctoral research associate he joined the research group of Prof. R. H. Holm, Department of Chemistry, Harvard University, USA during May 1985-September 1987.[ citation needed ]
He became a member of the faculty as an assistant professor at the Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Kanpur, India in October 1987. Since December 1995 he is a Professor of Chemistry. He was Head of Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Kanpur, India.[ citation needed ]

Palliakaranai Thirumalai Narasimhan (1928–2013), popularly known as PTN or Jim, was an Indian theoretical chemist, one of the pioneers of computational chemistry in India and a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He was known for his studies on quantum-mechanical interpretation of magnetic resonance data and his contributions in developing IIT Kanpur into a Centre of Excellence in academic research in the basic sciences. Arun Kumar Biswas was a professor at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (India) during 1963–95. He is well known for his contributions in the area of mineral engineering, archaeometallurgy, minerals and gems in antiquity, history of science, philosophy, science and music, etc. Biswas was the founding member of Indian Institute of Mineral Engineers (1969). Founder president of Indian Language Society in the early 1980s at IIT/K, he served several organizations in various honorary capacities: Mahendralal Sircar Research Professor in History of Science at the Asiatic Society, Kolkata (1995–2001); the AICTE Emeritus Fellow at the Jadavpur University (2001–2004); and INSA Research Fellow in Kolkata. In 2023, he received prestigious J C Bose fellowship constituted by the Science and Engineering Research Board, Government of India.
