Ragga Dee, born Daniel Kazibwe, is a Ugandan musician and politician. [1] He contested for mayor of Kampala in the 2016 general elections. [2] [3] [4] Currently, Ragga Dee serves as An Arts Administrator representing Art on the Private Sector Foundation Executive as well as Being Chairman National Culture Forum.

Early life and music

Dee was born in 1968 to George William Kyeyune. [5] He started his music career in 1988. [6] His music is an combination of do reggae, ragga, hip-hop, and Lingala. [7] He was Ragga Artist of the Year at the Pearl of Africa Music Awards in 2004 [8] and 2005 [9] and won best video in 2006. [10] He has 18 albums. He gained fame in the early 1990s with hits like Bamusakata and Mukwano while part of a group called Da Hommies.

He has won the Pearl of Africa Music Award for best Ragga artiste of the year as well as the Best Male Artist of the year and was profiled on BBC. In 2005 his reggae Album was crowned the Best Album at the Golden Awards in Uganda. [11]

Political career

In the build up of the 2016 Uganda General Elections, Ragga Dee announced that he would run for the mayor ship position in the Ugandan Capital of Kampala. He went ahead and joined the NRM party [12] through which he contested in an election that he lost to local lawyer and politician Erias Lukwago. [13]

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, known by his stage name Bobi Wine, is a Ugandan politician, singer, and actor. In June 2019, he announced his candidacy for the 2021 Ugandan presidential election. He participated in the 2021 election, in which, according to official results, he lost to incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, although he claims this result was fraudulent.

Radio & Weasel was a Ugandan music Duo that performed under their record label Goodlyfe Crew a Ugandan music group with lead performers being singers Moses Radio and [Weasel Manizo]. Moses Radio provided smooth RnB vocals while Weasel's contribution is a fusion of reggae, ragga and dancehall vibes. Because of their prominence, Moses Radio and Weasel formed their own duo known as Radio and Weasel. The Lead singer Moses and Vocalist Radio died on 1 February 2018 from brain injuries after an assault by a bouncer at a club in Entebbe. Radio's attacker threw him down about 3 metres (9.8 ft) onto a concrete pavement which resulted in massive intracranial hemorrhage.
