RS Bali (born 31 March 1979) is an Indian politician, who currently servers as the MLA of Nagrota, in Himachal Pradesh. [1] [2]

Son of former Minister G. S. Bali, RS Bali was selected as the chairman of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation and the vice-chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Board (HPTDB, in the ranks of Cabinet Minister of the government of Himachal Pradesh. [3] [4] [5]

Early life and education

Born on 31 March 1979, Bali was introduced to social services during his childhood itself. As a kid, he would see his father work relentlessly for the betterment of his people and he would often ask the reason and motivation behind doing so. His father, late minister Vikas Purush Shree GS Bali ji would always reply with a slight smile, “Main Rahoon Yaa Naa Rahoon, Main Apne Logon Ke Dilon Mein Hamesha Zinda Rahoonga (Whether I live or not, I shall live forever in the hearts of my people). [6]

Synonymous to his father, he has an effortless way of establishing a connect with everyone. He could be talking to a common man or a top-notch bureaucrat, he would do it with the same zeal. [7]

After completing his education from Dalhousie Public School and DAV School, Kangra, he moved to Bangalore and did Bachelors in Hotel Management from Ramaiah College. [8]

After completing his formal education in 2001, he had come back to his hometown, Kangra and thereafter devoted himself to the social well being of the people of his region. His involvement with the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) dates back to his college days.

Political career

In the year 2022, RS Bali chose to stand from his father’s constituency and continue the legacy of serving the people of Nagrota Bagwan in Himachal Pradesh. The people of Nagrota Bagwan voted him to power with over 42,000 votes- one of the highest in the state. He broke all records of the constituency with a landslide victory. [9]

RS Bali's father and former minister late Shri GS Bali ji was one of the tallest leaders of Himachal Pradesh. He was an MLA from Nagrota Bagwan for four consecutive terms and held the responsibility of minister thrice. [10]

During the 2020 Assembly elections, RS Bali was made the Co-Incharge of West Bengal.

In 2022 September he led the Rozgar Sangarsh Yatra in Kangra Parliament as he was entrusted to carry out the yatra in Kangra and Hamirpur Parliamentary constituencies. Over 15,000 people marched through the streets of Himachal Pradesh, alongside Mr RS Bali, creating ripples against the then ruling government of Himachal Pradesh. [11] [12]

RS Bali held the post of General Secretary of Himachal Youth Congress from 2004 to 2009.

From 2011 to 2013, RS Bali also held the post of Vice President of the Himachal Youth Congress and worked to strengthen Youth Congress in the entire country, including Himachal Pradesh.
