Raghuvendra Singh Rathore (born 1 July 1953) is a former judge at the Jaipur bench of Rajasthan High Court [1] [2] [3]

Early life and education

Raghuvendra Singh Rathore was born on 1 July 1953. He went to Mayo College Ajmer for his schooling and passed out in the year 1970. Justice Rathore graduated from Kirori Mal College, New Delhi. After finishing B.A. (Hons.) Justice Rathore enrolled himself for education in Law and completed LL.B. from University of Rajasthan, Jaipur in 1977.

Career

Rathore enrolled himself as Advocate with Bar Council of Rajasthan on 5 November 1977. Shri Rathore practised in civil criminal and constitutional branches of law. He was appointed as Additional Advocate General by the State Government of Rajasthan. He also represented a number of Government as well as non-Government Departments.

He was appointed to the National Green Tribunal in January 2016. [4] [5]

Judgeship

On 5 July 2007 Justice Raghuvendra Singh Rathore was elevated an Additional Judge of Rajasthan High Court. [5] Since then Justice Raghuvendra Singh Rathore is sitting at Jaipur bench of Rajasthan High Court.

Controversy

In 2013, Rathore was reported to have been confining his 30-year old daughter at home in order to prevent her inter-caste marriage. The Supreme Court had to intervene and free her from unlawful detention. [6] [7]

She became minister in Government of Rajasthan in 1954 at the age of 27 and holds the record of being the first female minister of Rajasthan. The Ruchika Girhotra case involves the molestation of 14-year-old Ruchika Girhotra in 1990 by the Inspector General of Police Shambu in Haryana, India. After she made a complaint, the victim, her family, and her friends were systematically harassed by the police leading to her eventual suicide. On 22 December 2009, after 14 years, 40 adjournments, and more than 400 hearings, the court finally pronounced Rathore guilty under Section 354 IPC (molestation) and sentenced him to six months' imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000. The CBI had opposed Rathore's plea and had sought an enhancement of his sentence from six months to the maximum of two years after his conviction. Rejecting his appeal against his conviction by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court, Chandigarh District Court on 25 May sentenced the disgraced former police official to one-and-a-half years of rigorous imprisonment, enhancing his earlier six-month sentence and immediately taken into custody and taken to the Burail prison. On 11 November 2010, the Supreme Court granted bail to S.P.S. Rathore on the condition that he remain in Chandigarh. Recently, the Supreme Court of India upheld Rathore's conviction in molestation case but restricted the punishment to six months' jail already served by him considering his age.

Ranjan Gogoi is an Indian former advocate and judge who served as the 46th Chief Justice of India from 2018 to 2019, having previously served as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India from 2012 to 2018. He is currently a Member of the Rajya Sabha, having been nominated by President Ram Nath Kovind on 16 March 2020. Gogoi served as a judge in the Gauhati High Court from 2001 to 2010, and then was transferred as a judge to the Punjab and Haryana High Court from 2010 to 2011 where he later was the Chief Justice from 2011 to 2012. He was transferred to the Allahabad High Court and remained senior Judge at the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court from 2 March 2015. He took oath as Chief Justice of the High Court of Meghalaya on 24 February 2016. On transfer to Karnataka, Justice Maheshwari took oath as 30th Chief Justice of High Court of Karnataka on 12 February 2018. He took oath as Judge of the Supreme Court of India on 18 January 2019.

Deepak Maheshwari is a former Indian judge of the Rajasthan High Court. He administered oath on 11 April 2016 by the then Chief Justice S.K. Mittal of the Rajasthan High Court. Bar Council of Rajasthan is the regulatory and statutorily representative body for lawyers practicing law in the state of Rajasthan. It was constituted as per the mandatory requirement as per Advocates Act, 1961 and Bar Council of India. In March 1953, S. R. Das as head of the 'All India Bar Committee', proposed the creation of the apex body as an All-India Bar Council and Bar council at state levels and submitted a report to the Central Government of India.
