Raj Bhavan (translation: Government House) of Pachmarhi is the Summer residence of the Governors of Madhya Pradesh, It is located in the city of Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh.

Pachmarhi is a hill station in Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh state of central India. It has been the location of a cantonment since British Raj. It is widely known as Satpura ki Rani, situated at a height of 1067 m in a valley of the Satpura Range in Hoshangabad district. Dhupgarh, the highest point (1,352 m) in Madhya Pradesh and the Satpura range, is located here. It is a part of Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve.

History

Pachmarhi used to be the summer capital of Madhya Pradesh. In 1967 it served as the summer capital for the last time.

Madhya Pradesh State in India

Madhya Pradesh is a state in central India. Its capital is Bhopal, and the largest city is Indore, with Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain and Sagar being the other major cities. Having obtained the status of the summer capital, Pachmarhi has bungalows for the Chief Minister and other ministers too. As a logical extension, it also has a Raj Bhavan for the stay of the Governor.

Building

The Raj Bhavan was built in 1887, with total area 22.84 acres (92,400 m2), with initial cost INR 91,344 and modification and renovation between 1933 and 1958; it cost Rs. 64,551. The Dance Hall was constructed in 1910–1911; it cost INR 20,770. Council Chamber was constructed in 1912 (now the Durbar Hall); it cost INR 14,392.

Apart from this, quarters for the Secretary, ADC and other staff members have been constructed in the Raj Bhavan campus.

Vidhan Bhavan, Lucknow

Located in Lucknow, the Vidhan Bhavan is the seat of the bicameral legislature of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The lower house is the Vidhan Sabha and the upper house is called the Vidhan Parishad or the. Raj Bhawan, Nainital

The second Raj Bhavan of Uttarakhand is situated in Nainital. In the pre-Independence era, Nainital served as the summer capital of United Provinces and this building, built like a Scottish castle was christened as the "Government House". Raj Bhavan was built by British as residence of Governor of then North West Province. The beginning of construction of Raj Bhavan was started in April 1897 and it took two years to complete. It is built on European pattern and based on Gothic Architecture. The designers of Raj Bhavan (Nainital) were Architect Stevens and the Executive Engineer FOW Ortel. After Independence it was renamed as Raj Bhavan.
