Raja Gosavi (1925-1998) was an Indian film and theatre actor, in Hindi and Marathi.

Stage career

Gosavi acted in the role of Natsamrat in noted Marathi playwright Kusumagraj’s iconic & milestone Marathi play "Natsamrat" after Dr. Shriram Lagoo. [3] [4] [5]

Movie career

Gosavi had made his film debut in Raja Paranjape's Lakhachi Gosht in 1952, along with Sharad Talwalkar (it was his debut too). [6] Gosavi worked as a ticket-seller at Bhanuvilas Talkies, Pune for a few years and his film 'Lakhachi Goshta' opened there, which he promoted by selling the tickets both at the counter and in black. [7] Raja Gosavi also plays lead role in one of the most famous play in Marathi "Soujanyachi Aishi Taishi".

Raja Gosavi Road in T.M.V. Colony, Pune has been named in his honour.

He is the father of Indian actor Shama Deshpande.

Dr. Shriram Lagoo was an Indian film and theatre actor, in Hindi and Marathi, in addition to being an ENT Surgeon. He was known for his character roles in films. He acted in over 250 films including Hindi and Marathi films as well as Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati plays, and directed over 20 Marathi plays. He was also very vocal and active in furthering progressive and rational social causes, for example in 1999, he and social activist G. P. Pradhan undertook a fast in support of anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare. He won the 1978 Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for the Hindi film Gharaonda. His autobiography is titled Lamaan (लमाण), which means "the carrier of goods".

Lakhachi Gosht is a 1952 Indian Marathi-language comedy film directed and produced by Raja Paranjape, who also co-wrote the screenplay with G. D. Madgulkar. The film stars Raja Gosavi (debut), Sharad Talwalkar, Rekha Kamat, Chitra in the pivotal roles. The music is composed by Sudhir Phadke. Cinematography is done by Bal Bapat, and editing is handled by Raja Thakur. The film is a humorous comedy about two impoverished friends. When one of them develops feelings for a wealthy and attractive girl, her father offers the young guy a fortune, which he must spend in less than a month.
