Raja Lakhamgouda Law College is an institution for legal education situated in Belgaum, Karnataka, India. It was established in 1939 by the Karnataka Law Society, and is one of the oldest Indian Law Colleges. [1] The college is named after Raja Lakhamgouda Sirdesai, the head of the former princely state of Vantamuri who has served as a mentor and donor to the school. [2] [3]
The college has a classrooms, computer labs, playground, gymnasium, library building, [4] canteen, and boys and girls hostels with medical facilities.
The college library has a collection of books and journals for learning and research. The college subscribes to several journals, newspapers and periodicals relating to the profession of law, general knowledge and general reading. A large part of library work has been computerized. There is a digital library available where students have access to all books, reports of Law Commissions and Bare Acts. It has services of the internet, Wi-Fi and CCTV. The college has started the 5 year law courses (B. A., LL. B. and B. B. A., LL. B.), incorporating the recent socio-legal aspects in the curriculum. The students have won several championships in sports, debate, and elocution. They participate in several national and international level Moot Court competitions.
It has conducted seminars on Right to Information, Judicial activism, Gender Justice, Protection of Women against Domestic Violence.
The college is situated on a large campus, in Tilakwadi, a suburb of Belgaum.
R. L. Law College was initially affiliated to Bombay University, and after the establishment of Karnataka University it is now affiliated to the Karnataka State Law University, Hubli. The college is recognised by the Bar Council of India as well as by the Government of Karnataka.

Mehr Chand Mahajan was the third chief justice of the Supreme Court of India. Prior to that he was the prime minister of the state of Jammu and Kashmir during the reign of Maharaja Hari Singh and played a key role in the accession of the state to India. He was the Indian National Congress nominee on the Radcliffe Commission that defined the boundaries of India and Pakistan.
S. Rajendra Babu was the 34th Chief Justice of India. He also served as the chairperson of National Human Rights Commission of India.
Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram also known as GLC Trivandrum is one of the institutions imparting graduate and post graduate legal education in India. Affiliated to the University of Kerala, it is the second law college in Kerala and one of the oldest law colleges in India. It was established in 1875 by the then Maharajah of the erstwhile Princely State of Travancore. Manjula Chellur is a former Chief Justice of Bombay High Court. She was the first woman Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court, was the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court and the first female judge of the Karnataka High Court. She demitted her office upon attaining the age of superannuation on 4 December 2017.
Justice S. R. Bannurmath (born 23 January 1948 in Dharwad) is the former Chief Justice of Kerala High Court and he was Chairman of Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission from September 2013 to January 2018. Bannurmath was also the Judge of Karnataka High Court and served as State Public Prosecutor and Government Advocate of the Government of Karnataka. He is a graduate of Raja Lakhamgouda Law College, Belgaum. He is the first chief justice in India to declare his assets in 2009 along with all judges.
Tirath Singh Thakur is an Indian jurist who served as the 43rd Chief Justice of India (CJI) from 3 December 2015 to 4 January 2017. Before being elevated to the Supreme Court, he served as the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court from August 2008 to November 2009 .He has also served as a senior judge in Karnataka High Court from March 1994 to July 2004 and Jammu and Kashmir High Court from February to March 1994.
