The Indian Police Service is a civil service under the All India Services. It replaced the Indian Imperial Police in 1948,a year after India became independent from British rule.
Ekkadu Srinivasan Lakshmi Narasimhan is an Indian former civil servant and politician who served as the first Governor of Telangana. He assumed office of the Governor of Andhra Pradesh on 28 December 2009 until 23 July 2019,making him the longest-serving governor of the state. Later he took on 2 June 2014 as the 1st Governor of Telangana as additional charge. A retired Indian Police Service officer,he previously served as the Director of the Intelligence Bureau from February 2005 to December 2006. He also served as the Governor of Chhattisgarh from 2007 to 2009. Narasimhan served as governor for 12 years making him the longest-serving governor in India.

Bajpai,and comes from a family of Bareilly,Uttar Pradesh. A keen sportsman,he topped the civil service exam in 1972,and joined the Uttar Pradesh cadre. Few years later,he switched to RAW,resigning from the IPS,and was absorbed in the Research &Analysis Service (RAS),which feeds the ranks of RAW. Mr. Tripathi is the first Secretary (R) to be from the RAS cadre in its more than four-decade history.

Syed Asif Ibrahim is an Indian diplomat and a former director of the Intelligence Bureau,the main internal intelligence agency of India. He held the position of director from 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2014. He was the first Muslim in India to hold this important position. He is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre and belongs to its 1977 batch.
Dattatray "Datta" Padsalgikar is a senior Indian IPS officer of Maharashtra Cadre,who was,on 30 June 2018,named as the new Director General of Police of Maharashtra and succeeded Satish Mathur.

Tapan Kumar Deka is the 28th Director of Intelligence Bureau of India. Deka is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1988 (41RR),Deka was empanelled as Director general of police level in 2021. Deka's tenure as the Director of Intelligence Bureau started from 1 July as his predecessor Arvind Kumar's tenure ended on June 30,2022.
Laxmi Singh is a 2000 batch IPS officer officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre,who is currently serving as the Inspector General (IG) of Uttar Pradesh Police. She became the first woman police commissioner of Uttar Pradesh on 28 November 2022.
