Raj Kumar Rai was a Lok Sabha member [1] [2] from 1984 to 1989 representing Ghosi. He was also a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 1980 to 1985, and the Public Accounts Committee from 1983 to 1984.
He was born into a Bhumihar Brahmin family on 1 January 1939, in Surajpur, a village of Mau district, in Uttar Pradesh.
After completing his early education in the village he went to Varansi where he completed an M.A., LL.B from Banaras Hindu University. He was an advocate for the Azamgarh civil court. He first joined congress party and worked as and MLA in UP legislative assembly. In 1984 he was elected a member of parliament (Lok Sabha) for Ghosi, under Prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. After some years he resigned from the membership of Lok Sabha and from the Congress party. He then joined Vishwanath Pratap Singh's Janta Dal and became its national secretary. He contested several Lok Sabha elections and fought for the cause of socialism. After that he came in contact with Samajvadi party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and joined the party. He became the chairman of Uttar Pradesh Beej Pramanikaran Nigam (equivalent to cabinet minister).
He was married to Lalita Devi Rai with whom he had four children (two sons and two daughters). He was jailed twice on the occasion of the arrest of Indira Gandhi in 1977.
He died on 24 September 2012 aged 73. His last rituals were performed at Muktidham Dohrighat.

Digvijaya Singh is an Indian politician and a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha since 2014. He is a senior leader of the Indian National Congress and Ex-General Secretary of the Indian National Congress party's All India Congress Committee. Previously, he had served as the 14th and 15th Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, a central Indian state, in two terms from 1993 to 1998 and from 1998 to 2003. Akhilesh Yadav is an Indian politician and national president of the Samajwadi Party who served as the 20th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Having assumed the chief minister's office on 15 March 2012 at the age of 38, he is the youngest person to have held the office till date. He is the incumbent Member of Parliament for Kannauj in the 18th Lok Sabha. He is the parliamentary party leader of Samajwadi Party in 18th Lok Sabha. Earlier, he was elected as the Member of Legislative Assembly for Karhal in the 18th Vidhan Sabha, before resigning and has also been the Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from March 2022 to June 2024.
Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna was an Indian National Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh; he later joined Bharatiya Lok Dal and worked with Charan Singh.
Amethi is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. This constituency covers the entire Amethi district and was created in 1967. Like its neighbouring constituency Rae Bareli, it is considered to be a bastion of the Indian National Congress. Its first member of parliament (MP) was Vidya Dhar Bajpai of the Indian National Congress (INC) who was elected in 1967 and held his seat in the next election in 1971. In the 1977 election, Ravindra Pratap Singh of the Janata Party became its MP. Singh was defeated in 1980 by Sanjay Gandhi of the INC. Later the same year, Gandhi died in a plane crash. This forced a by election in 1981 which was won by his brother, Rajiv Gandhi. Gandhi went on to represent this constituency until 1991, when he was assassinated by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The subsequent by election held the same year was won by Satish Sharma of the INC. Sharma was re-elected in 1996. Sanjaya Sinh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defeated Sharma in the 1998 election. The widow of Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi represented this constituency from 1999 to 2004. Her son, Rahul Gandhi, was elected in 2004. He was the fourth MP from the Nehru–Gandhi family since 1980 to represent the seat. Gandhi held the seat till the 2019 election when he was defeated by a margin of 55,000 votes by the BJP's Smriti Irani. Irani was defeated in 2024 by a margin of over 1.67 lakh votes by Kishori Lal Sharma of the Indian National Congress.

Babu Jharkhande Rai was an Indian Communist politician. He belonged to Bhumihar Brahmin community and was an eminent leader and one of the pillars of the Communist Party of India in Purvanchal, Uttar Pradesh. He was elected to the 4th Lok Sabha, 5th Lok Sabha and 7th Lok Sabha in 1967, 1971 and 1980 from Ghosi constituency. He held the seat till he died on 17 March 1984. Till the late 1980s, the communist movement in eastern U.P. was a major force to reckon with. It drew wide support from a largely agrarian society, in which neither religion nor caste was a factor and Jharkhande Rai represented the aspirations of the toiling masses.
