Ram Padarnath Mahto also known as Ram Padarath Mahto was an Indian politician,who served as Minister for Official Language in Government of Bihar. He was the brother of another politician and former Minister Ram Lakhan Mahato. Mahto was a leader of Rashtriya Janata Dal,on the symbol of which he contested 2000 Bihar Assembly elections from Dalsinghsarai Assembly constituency. He was an educationist in his early life,before joining active politics. Mahto formerly worked as principal of Sakara College. He started his political career with parties like Swatantra Party and also worked with Karpoori Thakur. Mahto died in April 2020 at the age of 91,in his ancestral village,Rampur Jalal. Mahto completed his matriculation from Chhatradhari School in 1946. He was eldest among his six brothers. Mahto later moved to Banaras Hindu University,from where he completed his master's degree and also completed his another degree of law. After completing his education in 1955,he joined active politics from 1957. He contested elections of 1962 as a candidate of Swatantra Party,and elections of 1977 and 1982 as a candidate of the political party of Karpoori Thakur. However,in these elections,he faced consecutive defeats. His first electoral victory came in 2000,when he contested the Assembly elections on the symbol of Rashtriya Janata Dal. After this victory,he was made Minister for Official Language in Government of Bihar. Besides politics,Mahto had also worked as educationist. He previously worked as professor in R.B College Dalsinghsarai,Amnour College Saran and Sakra College. [1]
Janata Dal (United) ("People’s Party (United)"),abbreviated as JD(U),is an Indian political party with political presence mainly in eastern and north-eastern India. JD(U) is recognised as a state party in the states of Bihar,Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur and is a part of government in Bihar. He was popularly known as Jan Nayak. On 26 January 2024,he was posthumously awarded India's highest civilian honour,the Bharat Ratna,by the Government of India. This was announced by the President of India Draupadi Murmu on 23 January 2024.

Later,he formed Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP),which also merged with JD(U) in 2021. On 20 February 2023,Kushwaha resigned from all positions in Janata Dal (United) and formed his own party called Rashtriya Lok Morcha due to his political problems with JD(U) and Nitish Kumar.

The criminal Ashok Mahto gang,which was active in the Indian state Bihar,was led by Ashok Mahto and included Pintu Mahto. Ashok Mahto and his gang were responsible for the 2005 killing of Rajo Singh,a sitting Member of Parliament. Ashok Mahto was imprisoned but escaped from Nawada jail in 2002. Pintu Mahto killed three police officers during the prison breakout. The gang's leaders are said to belong to either the Kurmi or Koeri caste,and were supported by the backward castes in the Nawada and Sheikhpura regions. The Mahto gang was waging a war of retribution against the exploitative upper-caste Bhumihars. Mahto and his gang were responsible for the killings of a large number of Forward Caste people in the late 1990s.

He served both Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav led government,and was first appointed to the post in the year 1980.

Aklu Ram Mahto was an Indian politician from Jharkhand,who served as Minister for Finance and Institution in undivided Bihar. He was a member of Rashtriya Janata Dal,having served as important functionary in several other political parties in past. He was a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly via Bokaro constituency. He won the Bihar Assembly Election in 1995 securing 99,798 votes. Mahto won Vidhan Sabha elections in the year 1980 and 1995. He had contested Lok Sabha elections from Dhanbad on four occasions while from Giridih and Hazaribagh once. Mahto was also associated with the movement,which started on the question of including Manbhum in West Bengal. He was one of the prominent leader to voice support for the rights of displaced people,who needed rehabilitation after the establishment of Bokaro Steel Plant. For four decades,after coming into existence of Bokaro Assembly constituency in 1977,he remained pivotal in its politics.

Ramdev Mahato is an Indian politician and a former member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from the Madhubani Assembly constituency. He had been elected from the Madhubani constituency to the Bihar Legislative Assembly four times between 2000 and 2010. Mahato was associated with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and recognised as an influential leader of the Mithilanchal region of Bihar. He is the father of another Bihar politician and former General Secretary of Rashtriya Janata Dal,Alok Kumar Mehta. He was one of the founder of Rashtriya Janata Dal. Mehta had represented Jandaha Assembly constituency multiple times,winning the Assembly elections of 1962,1969,1985,1990 and 1995.
