Dalsinghsarai Assembly constituency was an assembly constituency in Samastipur district in the Indian state of Bihar.

As a consequence of the orders of the Delimitation Commission of India, Dalsinghsarai Assembly constituency ceased to exist in 2010. [1]

It was part of Samastipur Lok Sabha constituency. [2]

Results

1972–2005

In the October 2005 Bihar Assembly elections, Ram Lakhan Mahato of RJD won the Dalsinghsarai seat defeating his nearest rival Sheel Kumar Roy of LJP. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Sheel Kumar Roy of LJP defeated Ram Lakhan Mahato of RJD in February 2005. Ram Padarnath Mahto of RJD defeated Vijay Kumar Chaudhary of Indian National Congress in 2000. Ram Lakhan Mahato of JD defeated Vijay Kumar Chaudhary of Congress in 1995. Vijay Kumar Chaudhary of Congress defeated Harbans Narain Singh of JD in 1990. Vijay Kumar Chaudhary of Congress defeated Ram Vilas Roy Vimal of CPI in 1985. Following the death of sitting legislator Jagdish Prasad Choudhary, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary of Indian National Congress defeated Ram Padarath Mahto of Janata Party in a by-election in 1982. Jagdish Prasad Choudhary of Congress (I) defeated Ram Padarnath Mahto of Janata Party (SC). Yashwant Kumar Choudhary of Janata Party defeated Jagdish Prasad Choudhary of Congress in 1977. Jagdish Prasad Choudhary of Indian National Congress defeated Yashwant Kumar Choudhary of Janata Party in 1972. [3]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mewalal Chaudhary</span> Indian politician (1953–2021)

Mewalal Chaudhary was a leader of Janata Dal (United) and a minister for a brief period of time in the Nitish Kumar's cabinet. He was elected from the Tarapur assembly constituency to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 2020, and was made a minister in charge of Education in the Bihar Government. However, he had to resign just three days after his appointment, amidst row over his alleged involvement in a corruption case, for which he was booked earlier. Chaudhary was an educationist, and prior to becoming a legislator, he was serving as Vice Chancellor of various agricultural universities in Bihar.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ram Padarnath Mahto</span> Former minister in Government of Bihar

Ram Padarnath Mahto also known as Ram Padarath Mahto was an Indian politician, who served as Minister for Official Language in Government of Bihar. He was the brother of another politician and former Minister Ram Lakhan Mahato. Mahto was a leader of Rashtriya Janata Dal, on the symbol of which he contested 2000 Bihar Assembly elections from Dalsinghsarai Assembly constituency. He was an educationist in his early life, before joining active politics. Mahto formerly worked as principal of Sakara College. He started his political career with parties like Swatantra Party and also worked with Karpoori Thakur. Mahto died in April 2020 at the age of 91, in his ancestral village, Rampur Jalal.
