Kurtha Assembly constituency is an assembly constituency in Arwal district of Bihar. It is the part of Jahanabad (Lok Sabha constituency). In Kurtha constituency, Kushwaha, Yadav and Bhumihar voters are descisive in ensuring victory of a candidate, due to their numerical preponderance. In 1969, the Shoshit Samaj Party leader, Jagdev Prasad, who was also called 'Lenin of Bihar', won from this assembly constituency. Satyadev Kushwaha won twice in 2010 and 2015 from here. In 2020, however, he was defeated by Bagi Kumar Verma of Rashtriya Janata Dal. [1]

Sahdeo Prasad Yadav was an Indian politician and a member of Bihar Legislative Assembly of India. He represented the Kurtha constituency in Arwal district of Bihar. He had been a Mukhiya of Chitaukhar-Jalalpur Panchayat for almost 25 years. First he became an MLA in 1980 while being in Lok Dal party. He was elected in 1995 as a member of Janata Dal. Yadav started his political career in 1957 as an Independent candidate from Tikari constituency but lost. Later this constituency named as Konch, now again becomes Tikari constituency from 2010 onwards. He also fought from here as a candidate of Indian National Congress in 1967 but lost to U. N. Verma of Samyukta Socialist Party and in 1969 lost to Ram Balav Saran Singh.

Abhay Kushwaha alias is an Indian politician from the Rashtriya Janata Dal, and a Member of Parliament representing Aurangabad in Bihar, India and former Member of Legislative Assembly for Tikari in the Gaya district of Bihar. An erstwhile member of Janata Dal (United); he won the 2015 Legislative Assembly election to the Tekari constituency by defeating Anil Kumar of Hindustani Awam Morcha, a political party led by former Bihar Chief Minister, Jitan Ram Manjhi. He contested on the symbol of Rashtriya Janata Dal in this election.

A former minister in Government of Bihar under Lalu Prasad Yadav, Verma has been a member of both Rashtriya Janata Dal and Janata Dal (United) at different occasions. In 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, he defeated Satyadev Kushwaha, the two times MLA from Kurtha Assembly to enter in Bihar Assembly for his third term.
