The Samajwadi Party is a socialist political party in India. It was founded by formerly Janata Dal politician Mulayam Singh Yadav and is headquartered in New Delhi. The Samajwadi Party is currently led by former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh,Akhilesh Yadav. He was chosen as the President for the first time in an Emergency meeting in 2017. He was chosen for second time in 2017 at Agra Convention of Samajwadi Party. He was chosen for the third time at the party's national convention held in September 2022 at Lucknow.

JD(U) is recognised as a state party in the states of Bihar,Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur and is a part of government in Bihar. JD(U) heads the government in Bihar and has remained the second largest party in Manipur. JD(U) won 16 seats in the 2019 Indian general election,making it the seventh largest party in the Lok Sabha.

Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh is an Indian politician and Member of Parliament representing Munger in the 17th Lok Sabha from Janata Dal (United). He was the national party president of JDU from 31 July 2021 to 29 December 2023. He was also the former JD(U) Bihar unit President.
