Ramdas Padhye (born 24 January 1945) is an Indian ventriloquist, puppeteer and puppet maker. [3] [2] He has performed in India and abroad for five decades. Ramdas did his first TV debut in 1972 along with his puppet 'Ardhavatrao' when Doordarshan called him to do a 15-minute show. [4]
Ramdas was the first Indian ventriloquist to perform on various International television network like NBC, CBS and BBC. [5]
Ramdas Padhye also trained Bollywood actors like Amitabh Bachchan [5] and Aditya Roy Kapur [6] in ventriloquism.
Ramdas also performed before the former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi in New Delhi in the year 1968. [7] [8]
In 2001, American puppeteer Robert Rockwood used puppets made by Ramdas Padhye at Atlanta. [9]
In 2020, Ramdas along with his son Satyajit Padhye designed India's first 3D printed puppet for film Ludo. [10] [11] [12]

Ventriloquism or ventriloquy is an act of stagecraft in which a person speaks in such a way that it looks like their voice is coming from a different location, usually through a puppet known as a "dummy". The act of ventriloquism is ventriloquizing, and in English it is commonly called the ability to "throw" one's voice.
Puppetry is a form of theatre or performance that involves the manipulation of puppets – inanimate objects, often resembling some type of human or animal figure, that are animated or manipulated by a human called a puppeteer. Such a performance is also known as a puppet production. The script for a puppet production is called a puppet play. Puppeteers use movements from hands and arms to control devices such as rods or strings to move the body, head, limbs, and in some cases the mouth and eyes of the puppet. The puppeteer sometimes speaks in the voice of the character of the puppet, while at other times they perform to a recorded soundtrack.
Laxmikant Berde was an Indian Marathi language film actor who appeared in Marathi and Hindi movies. Known for his highly energetic slapstick performances, Berde started his career as an employee in the production company Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangh and then played supporting roles in a few Marathi stage plays. In 1983–84, he first became famous with the Marathi play Tur Tur.

Zapatlela 2 is a 2013 Indian Marathi-language horror comedy thriller film written and directed by Mahesh Kothare. Produced by Kothare and Kothare Vision, it was distributed by Viacom18 Motion Pictures. A sequel to the 1993 film Zapatlela, it stars Adinath Kothare, Sonalee Kulkarni, Mahesh Kothare, Makarand Anaspure, Sai Tamhankar, Madhu Kambikar, Vijay Chavan, Deepak Shirke, and features Dilip Prabhavalkar providing the voice for Tatya Vinchu. This film is notable for being the first Marathi movie shot entirely with a 3D camera. Mahesh Kothare has also announced plans for a third installment, set for theatrical release in 2025.
Zapatlela (transl. Possessed) is a 1993 Indian Marathi-language horror comedy film directed and produced by Mahesh Kothare under Jenma Films International. The film stars an ensemble cast of Mahesh Kothare, Laxmikant Berde, Pooja Pawar, Kishori Ambiye, Madhu Kambikar, Jairam Kulkarni, Vijay Chavan, Ravindra Berde, Raghavendra Kadkol, Bipin Varti, and Dilip Prabhavalkar made a cameo appearance and provided the voiceover for the puppet Tatya Vinchu in the film. The practical effects for the puppet were created by Ramdas Padhye, a renowned ventriloquist and puppeteer. A sequel titled Zapatlela 2 was released 20 years later in 2013 in 3D format. The movie was also dubbed in Hindi as Khilona Bana Khalnayak.
Anurupa Roy is an Indian puppeteer, puppet designer and director of puppet theater. Roy views puppetry as not "manipulating dolls with strings" but an amalgam of plastic and performing arts where sculptures, masks, figures, materials, found objects and narratives come together with music, movement, physicality and theater to create the theater where humans and puppets are co actors. She started at her group Katkatha in 1998 which was registered as the Katkatha Puppet Arts Trust 2006. She has directed over 15 shows for children and adults ranging from the Ramayana and Mahabharata to Shakespearean comedy to the Humayun-nama. The puppets used by the group range from three inches to forty feet in size. The shows have toured across Europe, Japan and South Asia. A major aspect of her work is using puppets for psychosocial interventions in conflict areas like Kashmir, Sri Lanka and Manipur to Juvenile Remand homes. She has worked with youth and women across the country using puppets to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and gender issues. She is a recipient of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar ine Puppetry (2006). She has been a visiting faculty at the University of California Los Angeles an Artists in Residence at Pro Helvetia Swiss Arts Council.

It stars an ensemble cast of Abhishek Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Suresh Saraf, and Pearle Maaney. It was produced by T-Series Films, Anurag Basu Productions and Ishana Movies.

Created by Mahesh Kothare, designed by Ramdas Padhye, and voiced by Dilip Prabhavalkar, Tatya Vinchu is a possessed puppet who seeks to find the son, Aditya Bolke of his former prey Laxmikant Bolke, with the goal of becoming human once again.

The film is an anthology of 4 different heartwarming stories of contemporary couples and stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Ali Fazal, and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The film was officially announced in December 2022. Principal photography took place up to February 2024 in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Lucknow.
