Ramesh Khanna (also spelt as Ramesh Kanna) [2] is an Indian actor and film director who has worked in Tamil cinema. He has acted in a number of supporting and comedian roles.

Early life

Ramesh Khanna was born on 30 November 1955 in Chennai and third child to the family. He acted in R. S. Manohar's drama troupe from the age of 5 as child artist of more than 1000 dramas up to his age of 10 and was appreciated by Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, President of India at that time. [3]

Career

He became assistant to directors Karaikudi Narayanan, Pandiarajan ( Aan Paavam ), Kodi Ramakrishna , Vikraman ( Poove Unakkaga , Suryavamsam , Unnai Ninaithu and Priyamana Thozhi ) and K. S. Ravikumar. [4] [5] Ravikumar was meant to remake the Telugu film Maavichiguru (1996) starring Jagapati Babu and Aamani into Tamil for Sridevi Movie Makers, but his busy schedule meant that he recommended Ramesh Khanna to the producers. [6] The remake was initially titled as Maa Vilakku and was supposed to star Jayaram and Meena, but went through cast changes. [7] The film was revived under new title Thodarum with new cast involving Ajith Kumar, Heera and Devayani. [8] He later started working on a film titled Genius in 2000, but the project eventually was shelved. [9]

Only after, director Vikraman introduced him as a comedy friend to actor Karthik in Unnidathil Ennai Koduthen (1998). From that, he came to limelight with his comic timing. [2]

Khanna has acted in notable roles in films such as Padayappa (1999), Friends (2001), Unnai Ninaithu (2002) and Villain (2002). He has also appeared in supporting roles in films such as Thulluvadho Ilamai (2002).

Ramesh has written dialogues for Muni (2007) and Nam Naadu (2007) and written story of the film Aadhavan (2009). [10]

Ramesh Khanna is seen in a substantial role in the Ajith starrer Veeram (2014). [11]

He was first introduced by Bharathiraja in the Tamil film Alaigal Oivathillai (1981) and became a lead actor in Tamil films by his own. Padayappa is a 1999 Indian Tamil-language masala film written and directed by K. S. Ravikumar. It stars Rajinikanth in the titlular lead, with Sivaji Ganesan, Ramya Krishnan and Soundarya sharing other lead roles while, Lakshmi, Radha Ravi, Nassar, Abbas and Preetha play supporting roles. The soundtrack album and background score were composed by A. R. Rahman. The plot revolves around the titular character, Aarupadayappan, and his family being targeted in a generations-long revenge by his cousin Neelambari, a vamp who was left humiliated after Padayappa rejected her love proposal as he was in love with her good-natured home worker Vasundhara.

Unnai Kodu Ennai Tharuven is a 2000 Indian Tamil-language war drama film produced by R. B. Choudary of Super Good Films and directed by Kavi Kalidas, in his only directorial credit. Unnidathil Ennai Koduthen is a 1998 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film written and directed by Vikraman. The film stars Karthik and Roja, with Ajith Kumar in a guest appearance. Ramesh Khanna, Moulee, Sathyapriya, Fathima Babu, and Madhan Bob play other supporting roles. It was Karthik's 100th film.

Dhamu is a retired Indian actor, comedian and mimicry artist who mainly acted in Tamil films. He is known for his role as Otteri Nari in Ghilli (2004). He was a part of Gaana Galata Group, a popular touring and acting comedy troupe. Since then, he has appeared in several films. Unnai Ninaithu is a 2002 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film written and directed by Vikraman. It stars Suriya, Laila and Sneha while Ramesh Khanna, Charle, R. Sundarrajan and Ramji play supporting roles. The film was released on 10 May 2002 and became a commercial success. It was remade into Telugu by the same director as Cheppave Chirugali and in Kannada as Krishna.

Ajith Kumar is an Indian actor who works mainly in Tamil cinema. Apart from a small role in the 1990 Tamil film En Veedu En Kanavar, his professional career began three years later with his debut as a lead actor in Tamil cinema with Amaravathi (1993). Despite being a moderate success, the film helped him obtain more modelling assignments. He followed it up the same year with Prema Pusthakam, his only Telugu film to date. After Amaravathi's release, Ajith opted against acting, and instead tried pursuing a career in auto racing. While training for an amateur race, he injured his back and underwent three major surgeries, leaving him bed-ridden for a year and a half. After recovering from the injury, he played supporting roles in Paasamalargal (1994) and Pavithra (1994). After this, he co-starred with Vijay in Rajavin Parvaiyile (1995). That same year, he had his breakthrough with the romantic thriller Aasai. His performance earned him critical acclaim and established him as an up-and-coming actor in Tamil cinema.

Jai Ganesh was an Indian actor who appeared in Tamil plays and films. He had supporting roles in the films Aval Oru Thodar Kathai and Aattukara Alamelu, among others. His most popular roles have been as a supporting actor or as a villain in films such as Thaayillamal Naan Illai (1979) and Athisaya Piravi (1990). He acted as child artiste in films like Sampoorna Ramayanam and Missiamma.

Kanal Kannan is an Indian actor, action choreographer and screenwriter who works in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi films. He has worked with actors Ajith Kumar, Vijay, Vikram, Suriya, Vishal, Arjun Sarja and R. Sarath Kumar in many films. Stunt coordinators including Stun Siva, Peter Hein, Anal Arasu, K. Ganesh Kumar, Silva, Rajasekhar, Hari Dinesh, T. Ramesh and Thunder Jeeva have worked as fighters and assistants to him.

Super Subbarayan is a stunt director and actor in the Indian cinema, mainly in Kollywood and Mollywood. He has been working in the industry since 1980. Stunt masters and actors like Rocky Rajesh, Thalapathy Dinesh, Ponnambalam, Ram Laxman, Kundrathur Babu, Indian Baskar, Rajasekhar, Dhilip Subbarayan, Thavasiraj, and Dinesh Subbarayan have worked as fighters and assistants to him. Singamuthu is an Indian actor who has appeared in Tamil language films as a comedian.

Vairamuthu is an Indian lyricist, poet, and novelist working in the Tamil film industry. A master's graduate from the Pachaiyappa's College in Chennai, he first worked as a translator, while also being a published poet. He entered the Tamil film industry in the year 1980, with the film Nizhalgal, an Ilaiyaraaja musical, directed by Bharathiraja. During the course of his 40-year film career, he has written over 7,500 songs and poems which have won him seven National Awards, the most for any Indian lyricist. He has also been honored with a Padma Shri, a Padma Bhushan and a Sahitya Akademi Award, for his abundant literary output.

Mahanadi Shankar is an Indian actor and stuntman who has appeared in Tamil language films and television serials, playing mostly supporting and negative roles. He has starred in films such as Mahanadhi (1994), Baashha (1995), Ratchagan (1997), Amarkalam (1999), and Dheena (2001). The success of the former film meant that he used the title as a prefix to his stage name.

Kumarasamy, known by his stage name, Kovai Senthil, was a Tamil film character artist who appeared in Tamil films starting with Bhagyaraj's Oru Kai Osai. He appeared in over 400 Tamil films.
