R. Pandiarajan is an Indian actor, director and comedian who has played leading roles in many humorous Tamil films and plays supporting and comedy roles.

Personal life

Pandiarajan was born to Sulochana in Saidapet, Chennai in a lower-middle-class family. He has two sisters, Maheshwari and Geetha.

In 1986, he married Vasuki, daughter of the director, producer, and poet Avinasi Mani. They have three sons, Prithvi Rajan, Pallava Rajan and Prem Rajan.

Career

During his early career, Pandiarajan aspired to become an actor but faced challenges due to his height and appearance. As a result, he decided to start his journey in the film industry as an assistant director. His interest in music led him to earn a diploma as “Isai Selvam” in 1977 from Thamizisai College. While working as an office assistant for writer Thooyavan, he crossed paths with director K. Bhagyaraj and eventually became his associate director. His journey led him in three of his film, Andha 7 Naatkal (1981), Thooral Ninnu Pochu (1982) and Darling, Darling, Darling (1982). His first venture as a director and lead actor Aan Paavam (1985) was a massive success at the box office. [1]

He has co-starred with Sivaji Ganesan in Thaaiku Oru Thaalaattu (1986) and Muthukkal Moondru (1987). Actors Seetha, S. J. Suryah, Mayilsamy, Kollangudi Karuppayee and Bengali actress Debashree Roy were introduced by him to Tamil cinema and so was Srikanth Deva as music director.

Pandiarajan is also an accomplished and has directed several hit films including Subramaniya Swamy (1994), Gopala Gopala (1996), Doubles (2000), and Kai Vandha Kalai (2006).

He played leading roles like Thaikulame Thaikulame (1995), Kaalam Maari Pochu (1996) and Purushan Pondatti (1996) were later positive hits.

He acted in the TV serial Mama Maaple on Sun TV. [2]

He directed his first short film, Magan in 2004. It was selected for screening at the International Children Film Festival held in Hyderabad. The film dealt with the issues of child labour. In 2006, he directed another short film, Iru Thuligal, on polio awareness. Two years later, in 2009, he made one more film on organ donation. Titled Azhagu, acclaimed cinematographer Ravi Varman produced the film and also cranked the camera. [3] His short film in English, Help , was nominated at the ArtDeco Film Festival 2011, at São Paulo in Brazil. [4]

Nagesh (born Cheyur Krishnarao Nageshwaran; was an Indian actor and comedian mostly remembered for his comic roles in Tamil films during the 1960s. Nagesh was born in Dharapuram. He acted in over 1,000 films from 1958 to 2008, performing in a variety of roles as comedian, lead roles, supporting actor and antagonist. Andha Naal is a 1954 Indian Tamil-language mystery-thriller film, produced by A. V. Meiyappan and directed by S. Balachander. It is the first film noir in Tamil cinema, and the first Tamil film to be made without songs, dance, or stunt sequences. Set in the milieu of World War II, the story is about the killing of a radio engineer Rajan. The film also stars Pandiyan, Revathi and Seetha. It was released on 7 December 1985, and became a box office success. The film was remade into Telugu as Naku Pellam Kavali (1987) and in Kannada as Ramakrishna (2004).

Rahul Ravindran is an Indian actor, director, and screenwriter who works in Telugu and Tamil films. He made his debut in the Tamil film Moscowin Kavery (2010), before playing leading roles as a man with cerebral palsy in Vinmeengal and as a mechanic in Soorya Nagaram. Thaikulame Thaikulame is a 1995 Indian Tamil-language comedy drama film directed by N. Murugesh while the story was written by K. Bhagyaraj. The film stars Pandiarajan, Urvashi and Vinaya Prasad while Vadivelu, R. Sundarrajan appear in supporting roles. It was released on 22 September 1995, and did well at the box office. The film was remade in Telugu as Intlo Illalu Vantintlo Priyuralu, in Hindi as Gharwali Baharwali and in Kannada as Naanu Nanna Hendthiru. Master Mahendran won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Child Artist.

His first film was Aan Paavam released in 1985. He appeared in popular movies like Mahaprabhu, Vetri Kodi Kattu, Kannum Kannum. His way of speaking in the movies is completely of Nellai slang, which shows him unique to other supporting actors. He has acted in over 500 films in his career.

<i>Help</i> (2011 film) 2011 Indian film

Help is a 2011 Indian English-language short film directed by Pandiarajan and starring Delhi Ganesh, Mohan Raman and Devipriya. The film was notably the only film from Asia amongst the 55 films showcased at the ArtDeco Film Festival 2011 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
