Rana Mahmood-ul-Hassan is a Pakistani politician who is a Member of the Senate of Pakistan,from March 2018 to-date. Previously,he has been a Member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab,from May 2015 to March 2018 and a Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from 2002 to 2013.
He was born on 27 March 1970 in Multan. [1]
He completed graduation. [1]
He was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan from Constituency NA-150 (Multan-III) as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) in 2002 Pakistani general election. [2] He received 22,387 votes and defeated a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) (PML-Q). [3]
He was re-elected to the National Assembly from Constituency NA-150 (Multan-III) as a candidate of PML-N in 2008 Pakistani general election. [4] [5] He received 57,774 votes and defeated a candidate of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). [6]
He ran for the seat of the National Assembly from Constituency NA-150 (Multan-III) as a candidate of PML-N in 2013 Pakistani general election [7] but was unsuccessful. [5] [2] He received 79,680 votes and lost the seat to Shah Mehmood Qureshi,a candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). [8]
He was elected to the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab as a candidate of PML-N from Constituency PP-196 (Multan-III) in by-polls held in May 2015. He received 28,324 votes and defeated a candidate of PTI. [9] [10] He resigned from his Punjab Assembly seat on 10 March 2018. [11]
He was nominated by PML-N as its candidate in 2018 Pakistani Senate election. [12] However the Election Commission of Pakistan declared all PML-N candidates for the Senate election as independent after a ruling of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. [13]
He was elected to the Senate of Pakistan as an independent candidate on general seat from Punjab in Senate election. [14] [15] He was backed in the election by PML-N [16] and joined the PML-N led treasury benches after getting elected. [17] He took oath as Senator on 12 March 2018. [18] [19]
Raja Riaz Ahmad is a Pakistani politician who had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from August 2018 till August 2023. Previously,he was the Punjab Minister for Irrigation and Power and was also the member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab between 1993 and 2013. He had been the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan from May 2022 till August 2023.

General elections were held in Pakistan on 25 July 2018 to elect the members of 15th National Assembly and the four Provincial Assemblies. The three major parties were Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led by Imran Khan,the Pakistan Muslim League led by Shehbaz Sharif and the Pakistan Peoples Party led by Bilawal Bhutto. The PTI won the most seats in the National Assembly but fell short of a majority;the party subsequently formed a coalition government with several smaller parties. At the provincial level,the PTI remained the largest party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP);the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) retained its dominance in Sindh and the newly formed Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) emerged as the largest party in Balochistan. In Punjab,the result was a hung parliament with the Pakistan Muslim League (N) winning the most seats. However,after several independents MPAs joined the PTI,the latter became the largest party and was able to form a government.
