Random are a former five-member Australian R&B vocal group formed in 2005. Band members included, Xylocaine "Xy" Latu, Wayne Tauvao, Tasesa Junior "TJ" Tauvao, Donald Tauvao and Andy-Iese "Jesse" Tolo-Paepae. Random were the winners of the first season of The X Factor (Australia); they were also the first (of four worldwide) group to win the franchise. [1] In October that year they issued their debut self-titled album, which peaked in the ARIA Albums Chart top 100. Their first single, "Put Your Hands Up", peaked at No. 7 on the related ARIA Singles Chart. A follow up single, "Are You Ready", reached No. 36. The group disbanded in 2007 but briefly reunited in October 2009 for a one-off performance.

Contemporary R&B is a music genre that combines elements of rhythm and blues, pop, soul, funk, hip hop and electronic music.

<i>The X Factor</i> (Australian TV series) Australian TV series

The X Factor was an Australian television reality music competition, based on the original UK series, to find new singing talent. The first season of the show premiered on Network Ten on 6 February 2005. Ten dropped The X Factor after the first season due to poor ratings. In 2010, the Seven Network won the rights to the show, and a second season went into production. The X Factor was renewed after the highly successful Australian Idol was no longer broadcast on Network Ten. The X Factor was produced by FremantleMedia Australia, and was broadcast on the Seven Network in Australia and on TV3 in New Zealand. The program was cancelled after its eighth season in 2016.

History

Random formed at the Brisbane auditions for The X Factor (Australia) in December 2004. [2] Initially Xylocaine "Xy" Latu and Andy-Iese "Jesse" Tolo-Paepae were to compete as a duo, Rough Diamonds; while Tasesa Junior "TJ" Tauvao wanted to enter as a solo artist: he was attending with his brother Wayne Tauvao and their cousin, Donald Tauvao – all three were former members of a vocal trio, 315. [2] [3] Prior to auditioning all five agreed to compete as a combined R&B vocal quintet and named themselves, Random. [2] The group were mentored by Mark Holden and won the TV talent contest. [3]

Mark Ronald Holden is an Australian singer, actor, TV personality, record producer, songwriter, and barrister. He was a pop star in the 1970s and had four top 20 hit singles, "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again", "I Wanna Make You My Lady" (September), "Last Romance" (November) and "Reach Out for the One Who Loves You". Holden regularly appeared on national pop music show, Countdown. Holden is remembered for his clean-cut image, his white dinner suit and his penchant for handing out carnations to girls on the set of the popular television show Countdown – he was nicknamed "The Carnation Kid". In the 1980s he worked as a songwriter in Los Angeles providing material recorded by Meat Loaf, Joe Cocker, Gladys Knight, Bob Welch and Steve Jones. He was one of three original judges on the TV series Australian Idol (2003–07) and the first season (2005) of The X Factor.

After X Factor

The group released their first single "Put Your Hands Up" on 10 June 2005 [4] after their win. The single reached No. 7 on the Australian ARIAnet Singles Chart on the week of 19 June 2005. [3] [5] Their second single, "Are You Ready", peaked at No. 36 in September. [3] [5] They released their self-titled debut album on 9 October 2005, [6] but it only reached No. 79. [3] It reached No. 2 on the ARIA Hitseekers Albums Chart and No. 12 on the ARIA Urban Albums Chart. [3]

The group performed at Australia's biggest Christian music festival, the Australian Gospel Music Festival Awards 2006. UMA Urban Music Awards Australia, New Zealand 2006 'BEST RnB GROUP'. In October 2009 the group reunited for a one-off benefit concert for victims of the Samoan tsunami. [7] Latu reflected on their split, "we all wanted to do different things and there were other personal issues that needed to be taken care of." [7] All five ex-members were either performers or record producers. [7]

The 2009 Samoa earthquake and tsunami took place on 29 September 2009 in the southern Pacific Ocean adjacent to the Kermadec-Tonga subduction zone. The submarine earthquake occurred in an extensional environment and had a moment magnitude of 8.1 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of VI (Strong). It was the largest earthquake of 2009.

April M. Coates is an Australian dance music and pop singer-songwriter and producer, who performs as Cheyne Coates or Cheyne. Coates on lead vocals and Andrew Van Dorsselaer on background vocals and DJ were the pop duo, Madison Avenue (1998–2003). Their song "Don't Call Me Baby" peaked at number two on the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Singles Chart in 1999 and at the top of the UK Singles Chart and the Billboard dance charts in 2000. Since the break-up of Madison Avenue in 2003, Cheyne recorded an album, Something Wicked This Way Comes, and its first single "I've Got Your Number" which reached No. 26 in 2004.

Casino Twilight Dogs is the third studio album from Australian band Youth Group, released in 2006. The album came several months after the Australian chart success of the band's cover of Alphaville's "Forever Young", which had been recorded for the soundtrack of the US TV drama The O.C.. "Forever Young" had received extensive radio airplay and become a platinum-selling, No. 1 single in Australia, its success taking the band by surprise as they mixed Casino Twilight Dogs. The song, although different in style to their self-written material, was added as the album's final track.

The Tin Lids were an Australian children's pop group formed in 1990 with Eliza-Jane 'E.J.', Elly-May, Jackie and Mahalia Barnes all on vocals. They are the four children of Jane and Jimmy Barnes. The group released three albums, Hey Rudolph!, which peaked at No. 6 on the ARIA Albums Chart, Snakes & Ladders, which was nominated for Best Children's Album at the 1993 ARIA Awards, and Dinosaur Dreaming (1993). 1927 are an Australian pop rock band formed in 1987 with James Barton on drums, Bill Frost on bass guitar, his brother Garry Frost on guitar and keyboards, and Eric Weideman on vocals, guitar and keyboards. They were popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s with their major hit songs "That's When I Think of You", "If I Could", "Compulsory Hero" and "Tell Me a Story". Their multi-platinum number-one album, ...ish (1988) was followed by The Other Side (1990) which peaked at number three. At the ARIA Music Awards of 1989 they won two categories: Breakthrough Artist – Album for ...ish and Breakthrough Artist – Single for "That's When I Think of You". At the 1990 ceremony they won Best Video for "Compulsory Hero", which was directed by Geoff Barter. Late in 1986 Garry Frost saw Weideman on a "Red Faces" talent segment of variety TV show Hey Hey It's Saturday, Frost offered Weideman a spot in a new band, 1927. In 1992 the group released a third studio album, 1927, which reached the top 40; but they disbanded the following year. Weideman reformed 1927 in 2009 with a new line-up.

...ish is the debut album by Australian pop rock band 1927, released on 14 November 1988, which peaked at number one for four weeks in early 1989 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The album remained in the top 50 for 46 weeks and reached No. 2 on the 1989 ARIA Year End Albums Chart. The album was awarded 5× platinum certification – for shipment of more than 350,000 copies. At the ARIA Music Awards of 1989, 1927 won 'Breakthrough Artist - Single' for "That's When I Think of You" and 'Breakthrough Artist - Album' for ...ish. Its Too Late (Evermore song) song by Evermore

"It's Too Late" is the lead single by rock band, Evermore, taken from their debut album Dreams. The track was written by the group's three New Zealand-raised brothers: Dann, Jon, and Peter Hume. It was produced by John Alagía and released on 2 August 2004, which reached No. 16 on the ARIA Singles Chart in their adopted country of Australia. The song features on The OC Mix 2 soundtrack as a bonus Australian release only track. It also features on the Australian and New Zealand editions of SingStar Pop. In Australia, the song was listed at No. 14 on Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2004.

"Rock Show" was the third single by Grinspoon from their second studio album Easy. It was released on 5 May 2000 on the Grudge label, reaching No. 78 on the Australian Singles Chart and polling at No. 33 on Triple J's Hottest 100 for 2000.

Shining Star (INXS song) single by INXS

"Shining Star" is a song by Australian popular rock band INXS and was the only single issued from the band's live album, Live Baby Live, released in November 1991. It is the one new studio track recorded for the album and it peaked at No. 21 on the ARIA Singles Chart, No. 27 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming the group's ninth Top 40 single. In the United States, it peaked at No. 4 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart and No. 14 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, but did not appear on the Billboard Hot 100.

Roxus

Roxus were an Australian hard rock band which existed between 1987 and 1993. Members included Juno Roxas - lead vocals, Dragan Stanić - guitar, Darren Danielson - drums, John 'Stones' Nixon - bass guitar and Andy Shanahan - keyboards. Their debut album, Nightstreet was released in August 1991 and peaked at No. 5 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Their most successful single, "Where Are You Now?", reached No. 13 on the ARIA Singles Chart and was certified gold.

The Wanted discography discography

British-Irish vocal pop group The Wanted have released three studio albums, two extended plays and ten singles. The band's debut album, The Wanted, was released by Geffen Records in the United Kingdom in October 2010. It reached number four on the UK Album Chart and number eleven on the Irish Albums Chart. The album's first single, "All Time Low", was released in July 2010 and peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart and number thirteen on the Irish Singles Chart. This was followed by "Heart Vacancy", which reached two in the UK and eighteen in Ireland. "Lose My Mind", was the third and last single from the album and was less successful than its predecessors, reaching number 19 in the UK and number 30 in Ireland.
