Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal, SM, VSM**, (born 26 December 1975) is an officer of the Indian Army and the first Indian to climb the Seven Summits along with Mount Everest three times. [1] He is a veteran of more than 45 mountaineering expeditions. [2] He presently holds two Asian records and three Indian Records in mountaineering. [3]
Jamwal is a third-generation soldier who was born on 26 December 1975 to Sh Onkar Singh, a Havildar in the Indian Army. [4] His family is from Badhori of Samba District in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.[ citation needed ]
He completed his primary and secondary education from Army School, Ratnuchak. He cleared the Officer Examination (Army Cadet College) and joined the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun in 1998. [4]
Ranveer Singh Jamwal completed all four courses in skiing and mountaineering at High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS), Gulmarg in 2003. [1]
He also did his specialization course in search and rescue from Swiss mountain school Andermatt in 2007. [5]
He has had a varied experience of completing 45 mountaineering expeditions, [6] which includes Mount Everest, the highest peak of the world; Aconcagua, the highest peak of South America; Mount Elbrus, [7] the highest peak of Europe; Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak of Africa; Carstensz Pyramid, the highest peak of Australia; and Denali, the highest peak of North America.[ citation needed ]

In 2022, Col Jamwal made an Indian record by leading the 7 member NIMAS team which cycled 1100 kilometres in all seven north eastern states. [10]

On 31 August 2013, Jamwal was awarded the highest National award for adventure, the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award. [9]

He was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal by the President of India on 15 January 2014. [13] On the same date the next year (15 January 2016) he was awarded a bar to his Vishisht Seva Medal VSM. [9]
He was awarded the Sher-E-Kashmir Sports Award by the Jammu and Kashmir government on 26 January 2016. [2]

The Parachute Regiment is an airborne and special forces regiment of the Indian Army. It was raised in 1945 as part of the British Indian Army but was disbanded after World War II and was re-raised in 1952 as part of the Indian Army. Currently it consists of fifteen Special Forces, two Territorial Army and one Rashtriya Rifles battalions.

Premlata Agrawal is the first Indian woman to scale the Seven Summits, the seven highest continental peaks of the world. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2013 and Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award in 2017 for her achievements in the field of mountaineering. On 17 May 2011, she became the oldest Indian woman to have scaled the world's tallest peak, Mount Everest (29,032 ft.); at the age of 48 years at that time while Sangeeta Sindhi Bahl hailing from Jammu and Kashmir broke Premlata's record on 19 May 2018 and became the oldest Indian woman to scale Mount Everest doing it at the age of 53.
Tashi and Nungshi Malik are the first siblings and twins to climb the Seven Summits and reach the North and South Poles and complete the Adventurers Grand Slam and Three Poles Challenge.
Love Raj Singh Dharmshaktu is an Indian mountaineer who has climbed Mount Everest seven times.
Colonel Narendra Kumar, PVSM, KC, AVSM, FRGS was an Indian soldier and mountaineer. He is known for his expeditions across various mountain ranges such as the Himalayas and Karakorams, and respective subranges such as the Pir Panjals and Saltoro Mountains. His reconnaissance efforts on the Siachen glacier were key to the Indian Army's reclamation of the forward posts of the glacier in Operation Meghdoot in 1984. He was the deputy leader of the first successful Indian Mount Everest expedition in 1965.

Chandra Prakash Vohra is an Indian geologist, glaciologist and mountaineer who climbed Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, in 1965. He was one of the 9 summiters of the first successful Indian Everest Expeditions that climbed Mount Everest in May 1965 led by Captain M S Kohli.On 24 May th 1965 Vohra and Ang Kami Sherpa together reached the top of Mount Everest,. He was the first Indian civilian to scale the peak a feat he accomplished on 24 May 1965. A winner of the Arjuna Award (1965), and the National Mineral Award, Vohra was honoured by the Government of India in 1965, with the award of Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award,. He is the 4th Indian man and 19th man in world that climbed Mount Everest.
Brigadier Rajinder Singh Jamwal, MVC, also remembered as the Saviour of Kashmir, was an officer in the Jammu and Kashmir State Forces. He briefly served as the Chief of Staff of State Forces and died fighting during the First Kashmir War. Rajinder Singh and his small contingent of about 100 men successfully delayed the advance of a 6000 strong force of Pakistani tribal raiders near Uri for several days, during which the Maharaja of Kashmir acceded to India and the Indian forces air-lifted for the defence of Kashmir.
Sonam Gyatso (1923–1968) was an Indian mountaineer. He was the 2nd Indian man, the 17th man in world and first person from Sikkim to summit Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world. He was one of the nine summiters of the first successful Indian Everest Expeditions that climbed Mount Everest in May 1965 led by Captain M S Kohli. The first time that the oldest man at the time, Sonam Gyatso at age 42, and the youngest man Sonam Wangyal at age 23, climbed Everest together on 22 May 1965. He became the oldest person to scale the peak in 1965 and when he spent 50 minutes at the peak, he set a world record for spending the longest time at the highest point on Earth. The Government of India awarded him the third highest honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 1965, for his contributions to the sport of mountaineering.
Colonel Ajay Kothiyal, KC, SC, VSM (Retd) is an Indian politician and a former officer of the Indian Army. He is a BJP leader, earlier he was leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and was the CM Candidate for 2022 Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly elections. Kothiyal lost the election to BJP candidate in Gangotri Assembly constituency. In May 2022, he resigned from AAP and joined BJP.
Sangeeta Sindhi Bahl became the oldest Indian woman to have scaled the world's tallest peak, when she summitted Mount Everest in May 2018, at the age of 53 years. She also became the first woman from the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir to scale the mountain. Bahl is a former Miss India finalist.
Unnikannan is the first Keralite to successfully climb Mount Everest twice. He is a native of Azhuthan Poyil Veetil from Peringome, a village near to Payyannur in Kannur district of Kerala State, India
Colonel Narain Singh Sambyal, OBE, also remembered as the Savior of Kashmir, was a Commander of 4th Jammu and Kashmir State Forces who died fighting during the First Kashmir War at Domel Muzaffarabad.
Subedar Major and Honorary Captain Chhering Norbu Bodh, SC, (retd.) is a retired personnel of the Indian Army, known for his mountaineering achievements while in the army. Bodh holds a number of Indian summiting records related to 8,000m peaks. Among others, he is the first Indian mountaineer to have climbed six of the fourteen 8000m peaks in the world, and the first Indian to stand atop Lhotse and Annapurna-1.
Colonel Manpreet Singh, KC, SM was a decorated Indian Army Officer. He was killed in action during an operation in Anantnag with three others security personnel. For his bravery in the action he was awarded India's second highest peacetime gallantry award the Kirti Chakra posthumously, previously he was also conferred with Sena Medal gallantry.
