Rat Silo is a Canadian Alternative rock group based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada founded by James Newton, the former lead vocalist and guitarist of Canadian alternative rock band Sons of Freedom. [1]
Originally formed in November 2007, Jim Newton organized the recording of the band's first album 'November 2007:What the Butler Saw' at North Vancouver's Crew Studios (formally Baker Street Studios) over a three-day session. Newton recruited Vancouver musicians Don Binns on bass (Sons of Freedom, Trailerhawk, Econoline Crush, Art Bergmann), Sean Stubbs on drums (Numb, SNFU, Jakalope, Bif Naked), Finn Manniche (Jazzmanian Devils, Van Django) on guitar, and Dave "Oz" Osbourne (54-40) on keyboards. Mark Henning produced and engineered the sessions. [2]
In April 2009, Rat Silo's second album, 'Doubleplusungood' was released, It was recorded by Robert Handel and mixed by Mark Henning. [3]
In October 2011, their third album, 'The Great Northern Way', was released. The album was recorded and mixed by Dave "Rave" Ogilvie at Vancouver's Mushroom Studios. [4]
In 2017, after a two-year hiatus, Newton, Binns and Stubbs reformed and began working on new material. A fourth member, Erkan Gencol was added to the new line-up providing samples, loops, noises to augment the band's predominantly "guitar-driven" sound. In November 2019, the single, 'I Sacrifice: A veteran's lament' was released. It was recorded and mixed by producer/engineer Mike Foster at Vancouver's Blackfish Sound Studio. [5]
In May 2020, their fourth album 'The World Is Going To End Tomorrow' was released. It was recorded and mixed earlier that year by Dave "Rave" Ogilvie and Anthony "Fu" Valcic at Vancouver's Hipposonic Studios. [6]

It was one of a group of songs recorded and mixed earlier that year by Dave "Rave" Ogilvie and Anthony "Fu" Valcic at Vancouver's Hipposonic Studios. The song's release was accompanied with a live-performance video recorded at the "Rat’s Nest rehearsal space" by Vancouver photographer, author, and filmmaker Adam P.W. Smith. [7]
Rat Silo's fifth album entitled 'Unfortunately...' was released on November 21, 2022. The seven-song album contained two previously released singles "The World Is Going To End Tomorrow" and "Head on a Stick", along with five new tracks. All the album's songs were recorded at Vancouver's Hipposonic Studios by Dave "Rave" Ogilvie and Liam Moes and then mixed by Anthony "Fu" Valcic at his home studio in Halfmoon Bay, BC. [8]
In 2024, with a new label partnership with Montreal's SODEH Records [9] ., Rat Silo released six singles; Gun Gun Dogh, Go_Go_17, Never Walk Home Alone, Cantrustaman, Killedaman, and You're Doing It Wrong. The album entitled 'Id' is set to be released at the end of 2024. The nine tracks from Id were recorded at Vancouver's Hipposonic Studios by Dave "Rave" Ogilvie and Liam Moes, and mixed by Anthony "Fu" Valcic.
Dwayne Rudolph Goettel was a Canadian electronic musician, best known for his work in the industrial music group Skinny Puppy. Starting his career playing for a variety of acts around Edmonton, he joined Skinny Puppy in 1986 following the departure of keyboardist Bill Leeb. A classically trained pianist, he helped to broaden Skinny Puppy's sound with his extensive knowledge of equipment and sampling. He assisted bandmate cEvin Key on a number of side projects such as The Tear Garden and Doubting Thomas, and helped form the experimental electronic group Download. He also created the independent record label Subconscious Communications with friend and colleague Phil Western as a means to release his solo work.
Rabies is the fifth studio album by Skinny Puppy. It was released on November 21, 1989 through Nettwerk. The album notably features Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen who performed electric guitar and vocals on several songs. The album spawned two singles, "Tin Omen" and "Worlock", the latter of which becoming one of the band's most recognizable songs. The cover art was made by longtime Skinny Puppy collaborator Steven R. Gilmore. In 1993 the CD edition was reissued by Nettwerk to correct mastering errors in the original release.

Too Dark Park is the sixth studio album by the industrial music group Skinny Puppy. The album cover features the debut appearance of the band's "SP" logo. The cover art was created by Vancouver based artist Jim Cummins. The artwork for this album and its associated singles was inspired by cosmic horror stories such as the Cthulhu Mythos. Lyrical themes include collapse of society due to destruction of nature, drug addiction, and psychological issues.
Dave "Rave" Ogilvie is a Canadian record producer, mixer, songwriter and musician, known for being a former member of bands Skinny Puppy and Jakalope. Ogilvie started his recording career in Vancouver working as an engineer at Mushroom Studios. He was the mixing engineer on Marilyn Manson's Antichrist Superstar (1996) album.
Anything is the seventh studio album by U.K. punk rock band the Damned, released by MCA Records in 1986.
