Inaugurated in 2005, the race is named in honor of Real Quiet, the 1998 American Champion Three-Year-Old Male Horse and winner of that year's Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. In 1999, Real Quiet won the Hollywood Gold Cup at Hollywood Park Racetrack.

Woodbine Racetrack is a racetrack for thoroughbred horse racing in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Owned by Woodbine Entertainment Group, Woodbine Racetrack manages and hosts Canada's most famous race, The Queen's Plate. The track was opened in 1956 with a one-mile oval dirt track, as well as a seven-eights turf course. It has been extensively remodeled since 1993, and since 1994 has had three racecourses.
Real Quiet was an American Champion Thoroughbred racehorse. He was nicknamed "The Fish" by his trainer due to his narrow frame. He is best remembered for winning the first two legs of American Triple Crown: the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. His loss in the third leg, the Belmont Stakes, was the smallest margin of defeat ever at only four inches.
Hollywood Park, later sold and referred to as Betfair Hollywood Park, was a thoroughbred race course located in Inglewood, California, about 3 miles (5 km) from Los Angeles International Airport and adjacent to the Forum indoor arena. In 1994, Hollywood Park Casino, with a poker card room, was added to the racetrack complex. Horse racing and training were shut down in December 2013 though the casino operations continued until a new state of the art casino building opened in October 2016.

The Los Alamitos Futurity is an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually since 1981, originally at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California where it was called the Hollywood Futurity and later the Cash Call Futurity. Beginning in 2014 it has been run at Los Alamitos Race Course, following the closure of Hollywood Park. The race is open to two-year-old horses and run over a distance of 1 1⁄16 miles. It was raced on dirt until 2006 when Hollywood Park Racetrack installed the synthetic racing surface known as Cushion Track. It returned to a dirt track when the race moved to Los Alamitos.

It was named in honor of the actor, musician, bandleader, comedian and producer, Desi Arnaz.It was originally run as the Moccasin Stakes at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California to honor Moccasin, the only two-year-old filly to be named American Horse of the Year. From 1995 through 1997 the race was run as the Maker's Mark Stakes then reverted to the Moccasin Stakes through 2013. Ownership of the race name was acquired at the end of 2013 when Hollywood Park ceased operations. It was first run at Del Mar in 2014 as the Desi Arnaz Stakes.

Caucasus was an American-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and sire who won major races on both sides of the Atlantic. As a young horse he was sent to race in Ireland where he won four of his five races as a three-year-old in 1975 including the Ulster Derby and Irish St Leger. He then returned to America where he had considerable success in the next two years, winning five races including the Sunset Handicap, Manhattan Handicap, Arcadia Handicap and San Luis Rey Handicap. He had some success as a breeding stallion.
