Regretting You is a 2025 romantic drama film based on the 2019 novel of the same name by Colleen Hoover. It is directed by Josh Boone from a screenplay by Susan McMartin. It stars Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, Dave Franco, and Mason Thames.

Regretting You premiered at the Zoo Palast in Berlin on October 12, 2025, [5] and was released by Constantin Film in Germany on October 23, and by Paramount Pictures in the United States on October 24. The film received negative reviews from critics and grossed $53 million.

Premise

In the late 2000s, teenagers Morgan (Allison Williams), her boyfriend Chris (Scott Eastwood), her sister Jenny (Willa Fitzgerald), and Jenny's boyfriend Jonah (Dave Franco) form a tight-knit group, with Jonah secretly harboring feelings for Morgan as she becomes pregnant with Chris's child. [6]

Seventeen years later, their daughter Clara (Mckenna Grace) prepares for college and develops a crush on classmate Miller (Mason Thames), who may or may not still have a girlfriend. A car accident exposes Chris and Jenny's secret affair. The unfaithful partners die, leaving Morgan and Jonah to confront the betrayal, grieve their partners, and decide how to move forward for themselves and for Clara. [6]

In August 2024, it was announced that an adaptation of Regretting You was in development, with Josh Boone directing, and Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, Dave Franco and Mason Thames starring. [7] [8] In March 2025, Willa Fitzgerald and Scott Eastwood boarded the cast of the film. [9] [10] Clancy Brown, Sam Morelos, and Ethan Costanilla rounded out the cast that same month. [11]

Principal photography began in March 2025, in Atlanta. [12] [13]

Marc Clark and Robb Sullivan served as the film's editors. Nathaniel Walcott composed the film's score, having previously collaborated with Josh Boone on Stuck in Love and The Fault in Our Stars . [14]

Release and reception

Regretting You premiered in Berlin, Germany on October 12, 2025. [5] [15] The film was released in the United States on October 24, 2025. [16]

The film grossed $13.7 million in its debut weekend, finishing second behind Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc . [17] [18]

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes , 28% of 76 critics' reviews are positive.The website's consensus reads: "Regrettable all around." [19] Metacritic , which uses a weighted average , assigned the film a score of 33 out of 100, based on 19 critics, indicating "generally unfavorable" reviews. [20]
