Rekha Dikshit (born 10 August 1959) is a former judge of Allahabad High Court,in Uttar Pradesh,India. [1] She has been the trial judge in several notable cases,including the case of Mohd. Ahmed Khan v. Shah Bano Begum, a controversial case concerning the payment of maintenance to Muslim women in India,as well as the Taj Corridor case and the Uttar Pradesh NRHM scam. [2] [3] [4]
Dikshit studied law at Agra University,and graduated in 1981. [1] She is married to Pradeep Dubey,a lawyer who has acted as an advisor to the Governor of Uttar Pradesh and as principal secretary to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. [2]
Dikshit was appointed as a Principal Sessions Judge in 1984,and was promoted to District and Sessions Judge in 2013. [1]
In 1988,Dikshit was a judicial magistrate in Lucknow and tried the case of Mohd. Ahmed Khan v. Shah Bano Begum, ruling that the respondent,Shah Bano,was entitled to maintenance payments from her husband. [2] The ruling was affirmed by the Allahabad High Court and Supreme Court,and later resulted in the enactment of The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Divorce) Act 1986. [5]
Dikshit also served as the district judge in Rae Bareli and Kanpur,and as a special judge in Lucknow in a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Court for the investigation into the Taj Corridor case and the Uttar Pradesh NRHM scam. [4] [2] [3] [6]
She was appointed to the Allahabad High Court as an additional judge on 15 November 2016,and became a permanent judge on 23 March 2018. [1] [7] [8]
As a High Court judge,Dikshit has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to conduct an inquiry into allegations of discrimination in the admission of students who belong to states outside Uttar Pradesh,in Uttar Pradesh medical schools. [9] In 2016,she refused a plea to allow a plea by a Bharatiya Janata Party worker to transfer the investigation into the 2015 Dadri mob lynching to the Central Bureau of Investigation,after the Uttar Pradesh police investigation revealed that the rumours that triggered the lynching were false. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is the domestic crime investigating agency of India. It operates under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Personnel,Public Grievances and Pensions. Originally set up to investigate bribery and governmental corruption,in 1965 it received expanded jurisdiction to investigate breaches of central laws enforceable by the Government of India,multi-state organised crime,multi-agency or international cases. The CBI has attracted numerous controversies and criticisms due to various reports of irregular practises,excessive political influence,and a poor conviction rate. CBI is exempted from the provisions of the Right to Information Act. CBI is India's officially designated single point of contact for liaison with the Interpol.
Kumari Mayawati is an Indian politician who served as the 18th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 1995 to 1995,1997 to 1997,2002 to 2003 and from 2007 to 2012. She was the first female Scheduled Caste chief minister in India. In 1997 and in 2002 she was chief minister with outside support from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),the second time only for a year up to 26 August 2003 due to BJP withdrawing support. Mayawati's tenure has attracted praise and criticism. Millions of Dalits across India popularly view her as an icon,and refer to her as Behen-ji and Iron lady. She has been praised for her fundraising efforts on behalf of her party and her birthdays have been widely celebrated by her supporters. On the contrary,the rise in her personal wealth and that of her party have been criticised as indicative of corruption.

The Taj Heritage Corridor case is an alleged scam wherein 2002–2003,the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati and a minister in her government,Nasimuddin Siddiqui,were charged with corruption. The Taj Corridor project was intended to upgrade tourist facilities near the Taj Mahal and was to be implemented during her tenure as Chief Minister. The then BJP government at the Centre gave the Environmental Clearance required for the project near Taj Mahal. However,later on the BJP backed out and then started saying that the project was not cleared by the Environment Ministry and blamed Mayawati for starting construction work near the Taj Mahal.

Uttar Pradesh food grain scam took place between years 2002 and 2010,in Uttar Pradesh state in India,wherein food grain worth ₹350 billion (US$4.4 billion),meant to be distributed amongst the poor,through Public Distribution System (PDS) and other welfare schemes like Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY),Jawahar Rozgar Yojana and Midday Meal Scheme for Below Poverty Line (BPL) card holders,was diverted to the open market. Some of it was traced to the Nepal and Bangladesh borders,as in 2010 security forces seized Rs 11.7 million worth of foodgrains like paddy and pulses being smuggled to Nepal,another Rs 6062,000 worth of grains were confiscated on the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Uttar Pradesh NRHM Scam is an alleged corruption scandal in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh,in which top politicians and bureaucrats are alleged to have siphoned off a massive sum estimated at ₹100 billion (US$1.3 billion) from the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM),a central government program meant to improve health care delivery in rural areas. At least five people are said to have been murdered in an attempt to coverup large-scale irregularities. The Uttar Pradesh illegal sand mining scam is a political scandal relating to events that occurred in 2012–2017 during the Samajwadi Party (SP) rule. It is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the 2016 orders of Allahabad High Court for allowing illegal mining in 7 districts of Uttar Pradesh –Shamli,Hamirpur,Fatehpur,Siddharthnagar,Deoria,Kaushambi and Saharanpur –in violation of rules and ban by the National Green Tribunal. On 5 January 2019,the CBI raided 14 suspects in 14 locations in 7 cities across Uttar Pradesh and Delhi pertaining to this scam,and incriminating evidence was seized.
