At the European Championships she won a silver medal in 1962, and finished fifth in 1969. In 1964, Garisch-Culmberger set a new indoor world record at 17.18m, and nationally she won East German titles in 1961 to 1965, and 1967.

Germany was represented at the 1956 Summer Olympics by a United Team of Germany of athletes from the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) and, for the first time at Summer Games, also from the German Democratic Republic (GDR) which had not joined in 1952. Also, the Saarland athletes who had to enter as a separate team in 1952 could now join in even though the accession of their state was not yet in effect. Thus, this was the only Olympic team ever to comprise athletes from three German states.

Gerhardus Cornelius Potgieter is a retired South African Track and field athletics competitor, primarily known for the 400-metre and 440-yard hurdles. His innovation was to run 14 steps between the hurdles. For perspective, 1980's legend Edwin Moses' innovation was to run 13 steps. Former world record holder Kevin Young was able to achieve 12 steps between some hurdles.
Martina Boesler is a German rower. She is the sister of Petra Boesler, who is also an Olympic rower. Their aunt, Renate Boesler, won several medals at European Rowing Championships.
Renate Vogel is a retired East German breaststroke swimmer. She had her best achievements in the 4 × 100 m medley relay, setting two world records in 1973 and 1974, and winning a silver medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics and two gold medals at the 1973 World Aquatics Championships and 1974 European Aquatics Championships. She also won two world titles in the 100 m and 200 breaststroke events in 1973, and set two world records in the 100 m breaststroke in 1974.
Renāte Lāce was a Latvian track and field athlete. She won the gold medal at the 1963 Summer Universiade in the 100 metres event, and has got several other medals at Universiade. Lāce competed at the 1964 Summer Olympics – 4th place in the 4 x 100 metres relay.
Albert Sigl was a German sports shooter. He competed at the 1952 Summer Olympics in the 50 metre rifle, prone and 50 metre rifle three positions events. He also completed at 1956 Summer Olympics in the 50 metre rifle, prone and 50 metre rifle three positions events.

Wolfgang Sigl is an Austrian rower. He finished fifth in the men's lightweight double sculls at the 1996 Summer Olympics. Both his mother and grandmother were multiple medallists at European Rowing Championships in single sculls. His grandmother won five silver and two bronze medals, and his mother won two bronze medals.
