The Research and Development Establishment (shortened as RDE) is a defence-related research and development institute located in Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pakistan. [1]

Established in 2020 within the Ministry of Defence Production (MoDP), it focuses on indigenization to support the capabilities of Pakistan Armed Forces and other government agencies. [2]

Overview

The Research and Development Establishment (RDE) is a multidisciplinary research and development (R&D) organization established in May 2020 by merging of three previously independent institutions, namely: [3]

RDE promotes self-reliance by developing and producing defense equipment domestically. It also collaborates with academia and industry to develop equipment, vehicles and technology. This reduces dependence on foreign suppliers and strengthens national security. [4] [5]

The Arjun is a third generation main battle tank developed by the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), for the Indian Army. The tank is named after Arjuna, the archer prince who is the main protagonist of the Indian epic poem Mahabharata. Design work began in 1986 and was finished in 1996.
