In a 2013 interview, Rolf Kasparek described the album as audibly tougher and more compact than the previous album Shadowmaker . He then went on to talk about the song "Bloody Island" in which he explained that the demo version of the song would have been a great fit on the band's Pile of Skulls album.
A limited edition boxed set, released exclusively on the German Amazon website, features a poster flag, a patch, two posters, two stickers and a photo card.

Running Wild is a German heavy metal band formed in Hamburg in 1976. They were part of the German metal scene to emerge in the early to mid-1980s, and are also considered to be one of the country's so-called "big four" of power metal, along with Grave Digger, Helloween and Rage. Over the course of their career, they have released 17 studio albums, three live albums, five compilation albums, and six singles/EPs.

Pirate metal is a style of heavy metal music characterized by its incorporation of pirate mythology within the music and sometimes in stage performances. It was recorded and filmed at Wacken Open Air on 30 July 2009 for a CD and DVD release. This was known at the time as the "final" show when Rolf Kasparek announced the band's split on 17 April 2009 before reuniting in 2011.

Riding the Storm is a compilation album from the band Running Wild. The album was released on May 20, 2016, by Noise Records as a 2-CD set with a total of 32 songs. The compilation features material from the albums Gates to Purgatory right up to Masquerade while the band was signed to Noise Records.
Blood on Blood is the seventeenth studio album by the German heavy metal band Running Wild, their first album in five years since 2016's Rapid Foray. It was released by Steamhammer Records on 29 October 2021.
