Restful Place is a public artwork by Ho-Chunk artist Truman Lowe, located at Indianapolis Art Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. Restful Place was installed as part of the Center's ARTSPARK initiative. [1]
Restful Place focuses on a curved limestone bench and above it is an arched bronze and glass canopy. The bench consists of four pieces of limestone that have waves carved into them and the bronze canopy resembles wood. The sculpture is placed in a wooded area that overlooks the White River to provide a "restful" place for visitors to sit when visiting the ARTSPARK. [1]
This piece was placed in conjunction with the Center's ARTSPARK which brings together art and nature. [1]
Lowe's sculpture incorporates the surrounding Woodland environment where the ARTSPARK is located. With its unique and welcoming structure, is expresses Lowe's concept of bringing the viewer and sculpture into a heightened sense of place. He hopes that his work encourages the viewer to become more aware of environmental destruction and conservation. [1]
Jeppe Hein is an artist based in Berlin and Copenhagen. His interactive sculptures and installations combine elements of humour with the 1970s traditions of minimalism and conceptual art.
Monumentalment IV is a public sculpture by American artist Gary Freeman. Commissioned in 1979, it was installed in 1981 on the grounds of the Indianapolis Art Center, formerly the Indianapolis Art League, in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. The sculpture was surveyed in 1992 as a part of the Smithsonian's Save Outdoor Sculpture! program. He was born in Lockefield Gardens, an Indianapolis public housing project on Indiana Avenue, which was known for its jazz clubs. Workers' Memorial is a sculpture in Indiana, United States by artist Daniel Edwards made to commemorate workers who have died on the job. The memorial consists of three bronze workers standing atop a limestone base. The statue was unveiled in 1995 on April 28, a day on which labor groups in Indianopolis annually commemorate fallen workers. Sponsored by the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL–CIO), labor groups paid the entire $40,000 cost of the memorial.
