Retribution is the seventh studio album by Swedish rock band Nightingale, released on November 10, 2014 in Europe and January 27, 2015 in North America via Inside Out Music. [1] [3] [4] [5]
Vocalist and guitarist Dan Swanö commented on Retribution:
I felt that, unless it is the best possible Nightingale album, where every song on the album easily could replace any song from our previous albums, there was no point in making a new album at all. During the writing of the Witherscape debut album, I wrote a lot of stuff that would work better on a Nightingale album, and before I knew it, I had the skeleton for a lot of potentially awesome Nightingale songs! It was important that the new material had the vibe of the older albums, yet with a better production and performance. I am very confident that all the Nightingale fans will love Retribution since I made sure I felt the same rush inside me when I listened to the tracks that I did upon listening to the finished version of our most famous tracks from the past! Swanö also elaborated on the song "Forevermore" and "On Stolen Wings":
"Forevermore" is a track that showcases both the metal and the more bombastic A.O.R. influences of Nightingale. It's a good summary of what to expect from the album... and then some! The lyrics tell the story of Jim Jones and The People's Temple seen from the perspective of a devoted follower of the cult. [1]
After all the demos were done for the album, we gathered in the rehearsal room and gave them all a thorough spin. It took some time to get the arrangement right for "On Stolen Wings" and during the intense rehearsals there were a few "happy accidents" that completely changed the vibe of the song into something that I had been searching for all along. The lyrics deal with the kind of person that sucks the lifeblood out of creative people, that doesn't know how to bring their visions to the real world and then steal their ideas and then take full credit for it. Dan-Erland Swanö, also known as Dan "The Man" Swanö, is a Swedish musician and record producer who is currently the vocalist, guitarist, ex-bassist and ex-drummer for the band Nightingale, lately vocalist, keyboardist and drummer for the band Witherscape, as well as the owner of Unisound, but he achieved fame as the vocalist and songwriter of progressive death metal band Edge of Sanity.
Orchid is the debut studio album by Swedish progressive metal band Opeth, released on 15 May 1995 in Europe by Candlelight Records, and on 24 June 1997 in the United States by Century Black. It was reissued in 2000 with one bonus track called "Into the Frost of Winter", an early unproduced rehearsal recording by the band. The recording sessions occurred at the old Unisound studio, in Finspång with production by Opeth alongside Dan Swanö. The band did not record a demo to get signed to a record label. Lee Barrett, the founder of Candlelight Records, enjoyed an Opeth rehearsal tape, and decided to sign the band. The album received critical acclaim.
Angel of Retribution is the fifteenth studio album by English heavy metal band Judas Priest, released in 2005. It is the band's first album since 1990's Painkiller to feature Rob Halford. Dance of December Souls is the first full-length album by Katatonia. It was released on CD in 1993 by No Fashion Records and LP by Helion Records, released in the US in 1999 by Century Black. In 2004, record label Black Lodge reissued the album with all new artwork, but the band has stated on its website that it does not support this release for personal reasons. In 2007, the album was reissued, this time under Peaceville UK with a blue version of the original cover and all five songs from the Jhva Elohim Meth... The Revival EP appended as bonus tracks. In 2010, Svart Records released a double vinyl version, which also included all songs from the EP.

The Breathing Shadow is the first album by the Swedish rock band Nightingale. It was recorded and mixed within a week by Dan Swanö alone at his Unisound Studio; Nightingale did not yet exist as a band, and was simply a solo project by Swanö. This is the only album of Nightingale to use a drum machine. The songs "Nightfall Overture" and "The Dreamreader" were re-recorded on the 2004 compilation album, Nightfall Overture.
The Closing Chronicles is the second studio album by the Swedish rock band Nightingale, released by Black Mark Production in 1996. The album continues the story begun on The Breathing Shadow. This is the first album to feature Dag Swanö on guitars and keyboards, as well as produce the album.

Nightfall Overture is a studio album by the Swedish rock band Nightingale. The release includes eight re-recorded songs from the band's first four albums, a cover version of an Edge of Sanity song from Infernal, as well as a brand new song, "Better Safe Than Sorry". The album has collectible status due to its limited press and high demand. Swanö has stated that a reprint is unlikely because of rights management by the label.

Retribution is the sixth studio album by American heavy metal band Shadows Fall. The album was released on September 15, 2009. It debuted at number 35 on the Billboard 200. The album would produce singles for "Still I Rise" and for their cover of Ozzy Osbourne's "Bark at the Moon". The song "War" is an original composition but uses lyrics from the Bob Marley & the Wailers song War.
Haken are an English progressive metal band formed in 2007 by multi-instrumentalist Richard Henshall, guitarist Matthew Marshall, and vocalist Ross Jennings. While Henshall, Marshall, and Jennings first had the idea of forming Haken in 2004, they opted to pursue their instruments and songwriting first.
