Reuben and the Dark are a Canadian indie folk band from Calgary, Alberta. [1] Led by singer and songwriter Reuben Bullock, [2] the band also currently includes Sam Harrison (guitar/keys/vocals) Brock Geiger (guitar/keys/vocals), Nathan da Silva (bass/vocals), and Brendan 'Dino' Soares (drums).
Bullock released solo albums Pulling Up Arrows in 2010 [2] and Man Made Lakes in 2012 [3] before deciding to adopt a band name. The band signed to Arts & Crafts Productions in 2013. [4]
The full band's debut album Funeral Sky , produced by Christopher Hayden of Florence and the Machine [3] and Stephen Kozmeniuk, was released on Arts & Crafts in 2014. [5] The album was supported by a concert tour of both Canada and the United States, [5] as well as a smaller follow-up tour of Western Canada. [6]
In 2016, they released the single "Heart in Two", [7] and toured North America as an opening act for Vance Joy. [7] "Heart in Two" reached #1 on CBC Radio 2's Radio 2 Top 20 chart the week of February 12, 2016.
In 2018 the band released their second album Arms of a Dream , [8] as well as a cover of The Tragically Hip's "Bobcaygeon" as a charity single to benefit the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund. [9] During the tour for the Arms of a Dream album across Canada, the band's tour bus crashed on the Trans-Canada Highway near to Banff National Park. Whilst the vehicles were written off, the band members only suffered slight injuries and were able to continue their tour, even though some of their instruments were damaged beyond repair. [10]
In February 2019 the band released a stand-alone digital single "Hold Me Like A Fire" along with a collaboration video produced by the National Music Centre during their artist in residence program. [11] On October 25, 2019, the band released their third album un love . Also in 2019, their song Black Water, from the album Funeral Sky , was featured in the trailer for El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. The band also contributed a cover of What a Wonderful World for the soundtrack of the 2020 film Dolittle . [12]
The Tragically Hip, often referred to simply as the Hip, were a Canadian rock band formed in Kingston, Ontario in 1984, consisting of vocalist Gord Downie, guitarist Paul Langlois, guitarist Rob Baker, bassist Gord Sinclair, and drummer Johnny Fay. They released 13 studio albums, one live album, one EP, and over 50 singles over a 33-year career. Nine of their albums have reached No. 1 on the Canadian charts. Man Machine Poem is the thirteenth studio album by Canadian rock band the Tragically Hip, and the last album to be released before the death of lead singer Gord Downie, as well as their last to be composed of new material. It was released on June 17, 2016 on Universal Music Canada. Produced by Kevin Drew and Dave Hamelin, the album is named after a track which appeared on the band's previous album Now for Plan A.
The Man Machine Poem Tour was a concert tour by The Tragically Hip in support of their thirteenth full-length studio album Man Machine Poem. The tour consisted of 15 shows, the first held on July 22, 2016, in Victoria, British Columbia, and the last held on August 20, 2016, at the Rogers K-Rock Centre in Kingston, Ontario.
Secret Path is a Canadian multimedia storytelling project including a ten-song music album and tour, a graphic novel, an animated television film, and instructional materials. Released on October 18, 2016, the centrepiece of the project is a concept album about Chanie Wenjack, a young Anishinaabe boy from the Marten Falls First Nation who died in 1966 while trying to return home after escaping from an Indian residential school.
