The term was first used in Japanese after shortening the English loanword 'mechanism' or 'mechanical', but the meaning in Japanese is more inclusive, and 'robot' or 'giant robot' is the narrower term.

The Busójárás is an annual celebration of the Šokci living in the town of Mohács, Hungary, held at the end of the Carnival season ("Farsang"), ending the day before Ash Wednesday. The celebration features Busós and includes folk music, masquerading, parades and dancing. Busójárás lasts six days, usually during February. It starts on a Thursday, followed by the Kisfarsang carnival on Friday, with the biggest celebration, Farsang vasárnap on the seventh Sunday before Easter Sunday; the celebration then ends with Farsangtemetés on the following Tuesday. These traditional festivities have been inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of the UNESCO in 2009.

Gyo, fully titled Gyo Ugomeku Bukimi in Japan, is a horror seinen manga written and illustrated by Junji Ito, appearing as a serial in the weekly manga magazine Big Comic Spirits from 2001 to 2002. Shogakukan collected the chapters into two bound volumes from February to May 2002. The story revolves around a couple, Tadashi and Kaori, as they fight to survive against a mysterious horde of undead fish with metal legs powered by an odor known as the "death stench". The work also includes a pair of bonus stories, titled The Sad Tale of the Principal Post and The Enigma of Amigara Fault.

Shipley College is a General Further Education college in West Yorkshire, England, The college is a small place mainly based in the village of Saltaire. Other Sites are used for Lifestyle and Adult Learning and include local schools and Community Centres. The buildings in Saltaire go under the names of Salt Building, Mill building, Victoria Hall and Exhibition Building. All buildings are within walking distance of each other. Victoria Hall is only partly owned by the college. The reception, Student Services and the Enrolment office are based in the Salt Building.
