Design and development

The engine is based on the Volkswagen air-cooled engine. It is extensively modified for aircraft use. This modification consists of a quad CDI ignition (8 coils), new and enlarged #4 bearing, custom made crank shaft and cam shaft, custom made cylinder heads and other modifications. [3] The engine is delivered completely assembled and test run from the factory (it is not delivered as a kit).

Chrysler IV-2220

The Chrysler XIV-2220 was an experimental 2,500 hp, 2,220 cubic inch liquid-cooled inverted-V-16 aircraft engine designed by Chrysler starting in 1940. Although several aircraft designs had considered using it, by the time it was ready for use in 1945 the war was already over. Only a few engines were built during the program, and it retained its 'X' designation the entire time as the XIV-2220, later XI-2220. The IV-2220 is historically important as it was Chrysler's first hemi, a design that would re-appear for many years later and is now a Chrysler trademark.

Lycoming XR-7755

The Lycoming XR-7755 was the largest piston aircraft engine ever built in the United States, with 36 cylinders totaling about 7,750 in³ (127 L) of displacement and a power output of 5,000 horsepower (3,700 kilowatts). It was originally intended to be used in the "European bomber" that eventually emerged as the Convair B-36. Only two examples were built before the project was terminated in 1946.

Motorcycle engine Engine that powers a motorcycle

A motorcycle engine is an engine that powers a motorcycle. Motorcycle engines are typically two-stroke or four-stroke internal combustion engines, but other engine types, such as Wankels and electric motors, have been used.

Bugatti U-16 U engine designed by Ettore Bugatti

The Bugatti U-16 was a 16-cylinder water-cooled double-8 vertical in-line "U engine", designed by Ettore Bugatti in 1915-1916 and built in France in small numbers. The US Bolling Commission bought a license to build the engine in the US, and small numbers of a slightly revised version were built by the Duesenberg Motor Corporation as the King-Bugatti. Probably about 40 King-Bugattis were made before the end of World War I caused building contracts to be canceled.

Renault 70 hp

The Renault 70 hp or Type WB was a French V-8 aero engine that first ran circa 1907. It was also manufactured under license by Renault Limited of West Brompton, London between August 1914 and December 1918, three other companies, including Rolls-Royce, also produced the engine. A variant known as the Type WC used an external oil pump as opposed to the internal pump of the Type WB. The Renault V-8 engines were noted as inefficient but reliable, the inefficiency being mainly due to the excessively rich fuel/air mixture used to assist cooling.

Renault 80 hp V-8 piston aircraft engine

The Renault 80 hp, or Type WS in British service, was a V-8 aero engine that first ran in 1914. The engine was manufactured in Britain by Renault Limited of West Brompton, London between August 1914 and December 1918, seven other companies, including Rolls-Royce and Brazil Straker, also produced the engine. The Renault V-8 engines were noted as inefficient but reliable, the inefficiency being mainly due to the excessively rich fuel/air mixture used to assist cooling.
