The Last Glacial Period (LGP), also known colloquially as the last ice age or simply ice age, occurred from the end of the Eemian to the end of the Younger Dryas, encompassing the period c. 115,000 – c. 11,700 years ago. The LGP is part of a larger sequence of glacial and interglacial periods known as the Quaternary glaciation which started around 2,588,000 years ago and is ongoing. The definition of the Quaternary as beginning 2.58 million years ago (Mya) is based on the formation of the Arctic ice cap. The Antarctic ice sheet began to form earlier, at about 34 Mya, in the mid-Cenozoic. The term Late Cenozoic Ice Age is used to include this early phase. The previous ice age, the Saale glaciation, which ended about 128,000 years ago, was more severe than the Last Glacial Period in some areas such as Britain, but less severe in others.

Leverett Glacier in Antarctica is about 50 nautical miles (90 km) long and 3 to 4 nautical miles wide, draining northward from the Watson Escarpment, between California Plateau and Stanford Plateau, and then trending west-northwest between the Tapley Mountains and Harold Byrd Mountains to terminate at the head of the Ross Ice Shelf close east of Scott Glacier. It was discovered in December 1929 by the Byrd Antarctic Expedition geological party under Laurence Gould, and named by him for Frank Leverett, an eminent geologist at the University of Michigan and an authority on the glacial geology of the central United States.

Ebbe Glacier is a tributary glacier about 60 nautical miles long, draining northwest from the Homerun Range and the Robinson Heights, and then west-northwest between the Everett Range and the Anare Mountains into Lillie Glacier, Victoria Land, Antarctica. This feature saddles with Tucker Glacier, the latter draining southeast to the Ross Sea. The glacier lies situated on the Pennell Coast, a portion of Antarctica lying between Cape Williams and Cape Adare. Robertson Glacier is a tributary glacier to Ebbe Glacier.

Lillie Glacier is a large glacier in Antarctica, about 100 nautical miles (190 km) long and 10 nautical miles (19 km) wide. It lies between the Bowers Mountains on the west and the Concord Mountains and Anare Mountains on the east, flowing to Ob' Bay on the coast and forming the Lillie Glacier Tongue.

The Dater Glacier is a steep valley glacier in Antarctica, 24 nautical miles long and from 1 to 3 nautical miles wide, flowing northeast in a sinuous course from the eastern slopes of the Vinson Massif between Sullivan Heights and Veregava Ridge to Rutford Ice Stream which borders the eastern flank of the Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains. At the lower end the Dater Glacier coalesces with the terminus of the Ellen Glacier, the two emerging from the Sentinel Range as one stream just north of the Flowers Hills.

The Ellen Glacier is a glacier in the central Sentinel Range of the Ellsworth Mountains of Antarctica. It drains the eastern slopes of Mount Anderson and Long Gables and flows generally southeast for 22 nautical miles to Barnes Ridge, where it leaves the range and enters the south flowing Rutford Ice Stream.

Aviator Glacier is a major valley glacier in Antarctica that is over 60 miles (97 km) long and 5 miles (8.0 km) wide, descending generally southward from the plateau of Victoria Land along the west side of Mountaineer Range, and entering Lady Newnes Bay between Cape Sibbald and Hayes Head where it forms the Aviator Glacier Tongue.

Shirase Glacier is a large glacier entering Havsbotn, the bay that forms the head of Lutzow-Holm Bay in Antarctica. The area occupied by this feature was first mapped as a bay and named Instefjorden by the Lars Christensen Expedition (LCE) of 1936–37. Surveys by Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE) of 1957–62, revealed the large glacier in this position which they named after Lt. Nobu Shirase, leader of the Japanese Antarctic Expedition of 1911–12. Its nearby features were also charted and named by JARE unless otherwise noted.

Zenith Glacier is a glacier which lies 1 mile (1.6 km) west of Johnstone Glacier and drains south from the south end of Lanterman Range, Bowers Mountains. So named by the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition (NZGSAE) to northern Victoria Land, 1967–68, because the glacier is an important geological outcrop area with an impressive view from the top of much of the Bowers Mountains.

Irwin Glacier is a steep tributary glacier in the Bowers Mountains of Antarctica, draining northeast from Edlin Névé and at the terminus coalescing with Montigny Glacier, with which it enters the larger Graveson Glacier. The glacier was mapped by the United States Geological Survey from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1960–64, and was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Carlisle S. Irwin, a former glaciologist who participated in the study of Meserve Glacier in 1966–67. The glacier lies situated on the Pennell Coast, a portion of Antarctica lying between Cape Williams and Cape Adare.

Isbrecht Glacier is a small glacier flowing south from Thurston Island in Antarctica between Cox Glacier and Hale Glacier. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names after JoAnn Isbrecht of the United States Geological Survey (USGS), Flagstaff, Arizona, a satellite image processing specialist who was part of the USGS team that compiled the 1:5,000,000-scale Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer maps of Antarctica and the 1:250,000-scale Landsat image maps of the Siple Coast area in the 1990s.

Union Glacier, is a large, heavily crevassed glacier which receives the flow of several tributaries and drains through the middle of the Heritage Range, Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. The glacier drains from the plateau at Edson Hills on the west side of the range and flows east between Pioneer Heights and Enterprise Hills. Union Glacier was mapped by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy (USN) air photos, 1961–66. The name was applied by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) in association with the name Heritage Range.

Rippon Glacier is a small glacier located in Kemp Land, East Antarctica. It is close east of Seaton Glacier, flowing southward into Edward VIII Ice Shelf.

Wilma Glacier is the western of two glaciers entering the southern part of Edward VIII Ice Shelf in Kemp Land, East Antarctica. The second, eastern glacier is Robert Glacier.

Benbrook Glacier is a glacier 5 nautical miles (9 km) long in the Churchill Mountains. It flows south-southeast from Egress Peak, Carlstrom Foothills, into the Flynn Glacier. It was named after James R. Benbrook of the Department of Physics, University of Houston, Texas, a United States Antarctic Program team member in balloon-borne investigation of the ionosphere and magnetosphere over the Geographic South Pole, 1985–95.

Crosswell Glacier is a glacier 10 nautical miles long, flowing north-northeast from Mount Shinn between Sullivan Heights and Bearskin Ridge, in the central part of the Sentinel Range, Ellsworth Mountains, Antarctica. Together with Patton and Pulpudeva Glaciers, it enters Ellen Glacier northwest of Mamarchev Peak and southeast of Mount Jumper.

Lucchitta Glacier is a glacier about 20 nautical miles (37 km) long flowing south from the Hudson Mountains of Antarctica into Pine Island Bay. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names after geologist Baerbel K. Lucchitta of the United States Geological Survey, Flagstaff, Arizona, a specialist in the use of satellite imagery for geological and glaciological studies from the early 1980s to the early 2000s (decade), and one of the pioneers in the use of imagery for glacier velocity measurements in Antarctica.

Houston Glacier is a small glacier that drains north from Eielson Peninsula into Smith Inlet, on the east coast of Palmer Land, Antarctica. It was mapped by the United States Geological Survey in 1974, and named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names for Robert B. Houston, U.S. Navy, a radioman at Palmer Station in 1973.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Allison Glacier (Antarctica)</span> Glacier in Antarctica

Allison Glacier is a small glacier in Victoria Land, Antarctica. Its head is located just north of Mount Huggins, descending from the west slopes of Royal Society Range into Skelton Glacier. Abbott Spur separates the lower ends of Rutgers Glacier from Allison Glacier.
