Northlands Coliseum, or simply the Coliseum, is an indoor arena located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, situated on the north side of Northlands. It was home to the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL), and the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The arena opened in 1974, and was later known as Edmonton Coliseum, Skyreach Centre, and Rexall Place, before returning to the Northlands Coliseum name in summer 2016.

Richard "Dick" McTaggart, MBE is a retired Scottish amateur boxer. He competed in the 1956 and 1960 Olympics in the lightweight division and won a gold and a bronze medal, respectively. In 1956 he received the Val Barker Trophy for best boxing style at the Olympics. At the 1964 Olympics McTaggart moved to the light-welterweight category, but lost in the third bout to the eventual winner Jerzy Kulej. McTaggart won the British ABA title in 1956, 1958, 1960, 1963 and 1965, and retired with a record of 610 wins out of 634 bouts.

Samir El-Mais, nicknamed "Sweet Sammy", is an Abu Dhabi-born Canadian heavyweight boxer from Windsor, Ontario. Relatively unknown, El Mais captured the Canadian Heavyweight Championship on February 24, 2010 defeating Shavar Henry 9-4 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He competed at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the heavyweight division where he won his first bout against Kevin Evans of Wales and eventually lost in his quarter-final bout to Stephen Simmons of Scotland.

Winfield Braithwaite is a retired Guyanese light-welterweight boxer, who represented his country at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada. There he won the gold medal in the light-welterweight division, defeating Alec Leatherday of Australia, Baba Sumaila of Ghana, Michael Mwangi of Kenya and finally, James Douglas of Scotland in the final by knockout in the first round. It was the first gold medal won by a Guyanese athlete at the Commonwealth Games since runner Phil Edwards won the 880 yards in 1934.
