Richard J. Kramer (born October 30, 1963) is an American businessman and Certified Public Accountant. [1] [2] He is the chairman, president and chief executive officer of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio. [1] [2] [3]

Early life and education

Kramer was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Kramer is of Gottschee German ancestry. His ancestors were from the German enclave of Gottschee (now the Kočevje region) in the Lower Carniola region of Slovenia.[ citation needed ] He graduated from John Carroll University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 1986. Career

After graduating from college, Kramer became a Certified Public Accountant. From 1987 to 2000, he worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Cleveland. [2] In 2000, he joined Goodyear as vice president of corporate finance. [3] He became chairman on October 1, 2010 and president and chief executive officer on April 13, 2010. Kramer has been on the Goodyear board of directors since February 23, 2010. [3] His total compensation was $11.07 million in 2011. [4]

He sits on the board of directors of Sherwin-Williams. [3] He also sits on the board of trustees of his alma mater, John Carroll University. [5] A political donor, Kramer has made contributions to Democratic and Republican politicians in Ohio, including Tim Ryan, Sherrod Brown, Mike DeWine, George Voinovich, and Lee Fisher. [6]

Charles Goodyear Medal Award

The Charles Goodyear Medal is the highest honor conferred by the American Chemical Society, Rubber Division. Established in 1941, the award is named after Charles Goodyear, the discoverer of vulcanization, and consists of a gold medal, a framed certificate and prize money. The medal honors individuals for "outstanding invention, innovation, or development which has resulted in a significant change or contribution to the nature of the rubber industry". Awardees give a lecture at an ACS Rubber Division meeting, and publish a review of their work in the society's scientific journal Rubber Chemistry and Technology.

Paul W. Litchfield was an American inventor, industrialist, and author. He served as President, Chairman, and the first CEO of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and the founder of the town of Litchfield Park, Arizona and the city of Goodyear, Arizona. Among his many accomplishments as chairman was the establishment of a research and development department that produced the first practical airplane tire, long-haul conveyor belts, hydraulic disc brakes for airplanes, the first pneumatic truck tire, and a bullet-sealing fuel tank for military airplanes. Litchfield was also the author of books on air power, trucks, employee relations, and business.
