Richard John Mulcahy (born 30 June 1952),a former Australian politician,was a member of the unicameral Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly for one term,from 2004 to 2008,representing the Liberal Party and later as an independent. [1]
A long-term Canberra resident,Richard Mulcahy entered the Legislative Assembly after becoming concerned with the quality of core services in Canberra –especially the health and education systems. [2]
He is on the record as saying that it should be possible for the people of the ACT to enjoy quality core services without having to endure a heavy tax burden.[ citation needed ] He was committed to efficiency in Government and introduced several pieces of legislation to provide taxation relief for the people of Canberra. [3] Richard Mulcahy was committed to working hard in the electorate. By the ACT Government's own admission he had produced more case work on behalf of constituents than any other non-government member.
Originally from Tasmania,Richard Mulcahy has enjoyed a highly successful career in business and other roles before entering politics. He was the Principal Personal Assistant to the former Premier of Victoria,the late Sir Rupert Hamer and has also advised a number of other Parliamentary figures. [4] He also served in Chief Executive roles with the Confectionery Manufacturers of Australia as well as other industry organisations including the advertising,hotel,agriculture,and,most recently,lighting industries. At one time he was a Director (Dental Programs- Worldwide) of the William Wrigley Jr. Company based in Chicago,USA. He also held appointments with the US Government and later the Canadian Government. He also has served in Chief Executive roles and is currently chief executive officer of Lighting Council Australia having been appointed in 2017 [4] Richard Mulcahy also served on the staff of former Liberal Senator,the late Senator The Hon John Marriott,then the late Hon Michael Hodgman MP (father of Tasmania's current Premier) and the late Sir Max Bingham QC,former Leader of the Opposition in Tasmania.
Richard Mulcahy is also adjunct professor in the Business,Economics and Law Faculty at the University of Queensland,a position he has held since 2004, [5] and is a Life Member Keeper of the Quaich conferred at Blair Castle,Scotland,by the Earl of Erroll in 2002.
He was also awarded the Centenary Medal by the Australian Government in 2003. [6]

Mulcahy entered the Legislative Assembly in 2004 as a Member of the Liberal Party. A strong campaign resulted in the highest vote of all Liberal candidates in the electorate of Molonglo. [7] and was seen instantly by members of the public and media as a candidate for the Liberal leadership. Mulcahy was appointed to the Shadow Treasury position.
During his time in the Legislative Assembly,Richard Mulcahy served as Shadow Treasurer and Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations,Heritage,Environment and Water,Territory-owned Corporations,Ageing,Arts,Deputy Leader of the Opposition,and Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.
Gary John Joseph Humphries is a Deputy President of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. He was a member of the Australian Senate representing the Australian Capital Territory for the Liberal Party of Australia from 2003 to 2013. He was the Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory from 2000 to 2001;and was elected to the first parliament of the Australian Capital Territory,in 1989,later representing the Molonglo electorate until 2003.

However Labor,with the largest representation in the 17-member unicameral Assembly,formed Government with the support of the ACT Greens and Democrats. Stanhope was elected Chief Minister at the first sitting of the fifth Assembly on 12 November 2001. The election was conducted by the ACT Electoral Commission and was the first time in Australia's history that an electronic voting and counting system was used for some,but not all,polling places.

The Molonglo electorate was one of the three electorates for the unicameral 17-member Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly between 1995 and 2016. It had seven seats,and was the largest of the three electorates in terms of population.

Consequently,Labor was re-elected to a third consecutive term of government in the ACT. Stanhope was elected Chief Minister at the first sitting of the seventh Assembly on 5 November 2008. Shane Stephen Rattenbury,is the Attorney-General of the ACT and former Speaker of the ACT Legislative Assembly,and a member of the multi-member district unicameral Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly representing the electorate of Molonglo from 2008 to 2016 and the electorate of Kurrajong since 2016 for the ACT Greens. Alistair Bruce Coe is an Australian politician and a former leader of the Liberal Party and Leader of the Opposition in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). He was a member of the ACT Legislative Assembly from 2008 to 2021,representing the Ginninderra electorate from 2008 to 2016 and the Yerrabi electorate from 2016 to 2021. As Opposition Leader Coe led the Liberal Party to defeat at the 2020 election. He chose not to re-contest the party's leadership position,and resigned from the Assembly in 2021.
Steven John Doszpot was an Australian politician and member of the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly from 2008 to 2017. A member of the Liberal Party,he represented the electorate of Brindabella between 2008 and 2012,Molonglo from 2012 to 2016,and Kurrajong from 2016 to his death in 2017.
