Kannada cinema, also known as Sandalwood, or Chandanavana, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Kannada language widely spoken in the state of Karnataka. Kannada cinema is based in Gandhi Nagar, Bangalore. The 1934 film Sati Sulochana directed by Y. V. Rao was the first talkie film released in the Kannada language. It was also the first film starring Subbaiah Naidu and Tripuramba, and the first screened in the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom. It was produced by Chamanlal Doongaji, who in 1932 founded South India Movietone in Bangalore.
Shweta, known by her stage name Rakshita, is an Indian television personality, film producer and former actress known for her work in Kannada films, addition to a few Telugu and Tamil films.

Paramathma is a 2011 Indian Kannada-language romantic comedy film written, directed and co-produced by Yogaraj Bhat. It stars Puneeth Rajkumar and Deepa Sannidhi in the lead roles and was released on 6 October 2011, on the eve of Vijayadashami. Halfway through its production, the film's TV rights was procured for a record ₹3.5 crore. Even before the release, the film grossed a record amount of over ₹25 Cr included broadcasting and distribution rights. Since release, the movie has garnered a cult status for its metaphorical narration and out-of-the box storytelling.

The season one of the Kannada version of Indian reality television series Bigg Boss was broadcast on ETV Kannada in 2013. The show was hosted by Sudeep. A prize amount of ₹50,00,000 was announced for the winner. The show lasted for 99 days starting from 24 March 2013 to 30 June 2013. A total of 15 contestants and 2 guests had entered the show. The Bigg Boss house, located in Lonavala, was fixed with 47 cameras to capture the activities in the house.
Ring Road is a 2015 Indian Kannada crime drama film directed by Priya Belliappa and produced by Ranjini Ravindra Das. It stars Altmash Shakreen in the lead role. The supporting cast features Nikita Thukral, Duniya Vijay, Avinash, Malavika Avinash, Patre Ajith, Shrunga B. V. and Sagar Puranik. The film is based loosely on the infamous murder of software engineer Girish by his fiancée Shubha in Bangalore in 2003. The film was produced by an all-women crew, a first in Kannada-language cinema.
Case No.18/9 is a 2013 Indian Kannada language film directed by Mahesh Rao, a remake of the Tamil film Vazhakku Enn 18/9 (2012). The film stars Niranjan Shetty and Sindhu Lokanath. The supporting cast features Abhishek, Shweta Pandit and Rangayana Raghu.
Benkipatna is 2015 Indian Kannada language drama film written and directed by T. K. Dayanand. It stars Prathap Narayan, Anushree and Arun Sagar in the lead roles. The supporting cast features Prakash Belawadi, Jahangir, Rangashankara Manju and B. Suresha. The film is based on real incidents that occurred in the Kodagu district of Karnataka.
Vijay Kumar Basavarajaiah, known by his stage name Sanchari Vijay, was an Indian actor known for his work in Kannada cinema. He began his career as a stage actor. He trained on stage from Sanchari Theatre, a culture centre with its own drama troupe, based in Bangalore.
Ravi Basrur is an Indian music composer, sound designer, lyricist and director who mostly works in the Kannada film industry and is known for his collaborations with director Prashant Neel, with whom he debuted in Ugramm. He also works as a film director, having directed the films Gargar Mandala and Girmit.
Parari is a 2013 Indian Kannada-language comedy film directed by K. M. Chaitanya starring Shravanth, Shuba Poonja, Jahnavi Kamath, Shrunga and Bullet Prakash in lead roles.
