Makerere University is Uganda's largest and oldest institution of higher learning, first established as a technical school in 1922, and the oldest currently active university in East Africa. It became an independent national university in 1970. Today, Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates. The main administrative block was gutted by fire in September 2020 and the cause of the fire is yet to be established.

John Chrysestom Muyingo is a Ugandan educator and politician. He is the State Minister for Higher Education in the Ugandan Cabinet. He was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016. He previously served as the State Minister for Primary Education from 1 March 2015 until 5 June 2016. Before that, from 27 May 2011 until 1 March 2015, he served as the State Minister for Higher Education, having replaced Mwesigwa Rukutana in May 2011. Muyingo was also the elected Member of Parliament for Bamunanika County, Luweero District. In the 2021 general elections he lost the seat to his former campaign manager and personal assistant, Robert Ssekitoleko who run on the National Unity Platform party ticket.
Namayanja Rose Nsereko is a Ugandan lawyer, columnist, author, security sector manager and politician. She is the current Deputy Secretary General of Uganda's rulling party.
Jennifer Semakula Musisi is a Ugandan lawyer and public administrator. She is the first City Leader in Residence at Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative at the Ash Center of the Harvard Kennedy School, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. She was appointed to this position in January 2019.
Mariam Najjemba Mbabaali, formerly known as Rosemary Najjemba Muyinda is a Ugandan politician. She served as the State Minister for Urban Planning in the Ugandan Cabinet from 15 August 2012, until 6 June 2016, when she was dropped from cabinet. In the cabinet, she replaced Justine Lumumba Kasule, who was appointed Government Chief Whip. Najjemba served as the elected Member of Parliament for Gomba County, Gomba District on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) political party ticket, for two consecutive terms, from 2006 until 2016.
Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, is a Ugandan businesswoman and politician. She is the current presidential advisor for Youth and Children Affairs in Uganda. She was appointed to this position on 6 June 2021. She is the former Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs in the Cabinet of Uganda. She was appointed to that position on 6 June 2016 to 6 June 2021 She is also the Federation of Uganda Football Associations third Vice-President, the first woman to hold that position in Uganda. As well serves as the Chairperson Commonwealth Youth Ministers Task force voted to that position in 2017.
Stella Nyanzi is a Ugandan human rights advocate, poet, medical anthropologist, feminist, queer rights advocate, and scholar of sexuality, family planning, and public health. She was arrested in 2017 for insulting the Ugandan president. In January 2022, she was accepted to live in Germany on a writers-in-exile programme run by PEN Germany, with her three children.
Florence Isabirye Muranga is a Ugandan biochemist, food scientist, academic and corporate executive, who serves as the executive director of the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development (PIBID), a presidential project started in an effort to boost the commercialization of Uganda's bananas through research and industrialization.

Namubiru Rose Kirumira. is a Ugandan sculptor and senior lecturer at the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts (MTSIFA), Department of Visual Arts, College of Engineering Design Art and Technology, at Makerere University. She sadly found an extremely high prevalence of internalized oppression due to religion and socialization.
Dr. Lillian Aber is the women's representative for Kitgum District in the eleventh Parliament of Uganda. She represented the National Resistance Movement under re-elected President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni. In the 2021 general election, Aber won with 41,192 votes against Roselyn Alanyo Olobo of the Uganda People's Congress and Norah Odokorach, an independent candidate.
Florence Namayanja is a female Ugandan politician who was district woman representative of Bukoto County East, Masaka District. She was affiliated to the Democratic Party political party and now affiliated to National Unity Platform. In the 11th Parliament, she stood as the Candidate for LC5 Chairperson for Masaka City under the National Unity Platform although she lost the elections. She was the winner of Masaka city mayoral seat after defeating seven candidates including business tycoon, Emmanuel Lwasa with 28,824 votes.
Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi is a Ugandan politician and educationist who is the woman representative for Kisoro District, and Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development appointed in 2021 by the President Yoweri Museveni in the Ugandan 11th Parliament.
Sika Foyer is a Togolese American mixed media and conceptual visual artist and curator living and working in New York City. In 2017 she curated the exhibition Affirmative Art at Nagenda International Academy of Art and Design (NIAAD) at Makerere University in Namulanda, Entebbe, Uganda. In 2021 she received her Master of Fine Arts from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
