Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is a joint venture formed in 2024 between Rivian Automotive, an American electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, and Volkswagen Group, a German multinational automotive conglomerate. Rivian-Volkswagen joint venture aims to develop next-generation software defined vehicle platforms to be utilized in both companies future electric vehicles. [1] [2]

Description

The primary goal of Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is to advance the capabilities of software-defined vehicles by creating scalable technology platforms applicable to various vehicle segments. This includes developing operating systems, zonal controllers, and cloud connectivity solutions to address the challenges of electric vehicles and set new standards for SDVs globally. The partnership also aims to reduce production costs and enhance competitiveness in the EV market by combining Rivian’s software expertise with Volkswagen’s extensive manufacturing experience. This collaboration is expected to result in the launch of new electric vehicle models by 2027, incorporating the jointly developed technologies. [3]
