Rob Bishop is an American college baseball coach and former player. Bishop is the head coach of the South Dakota State Jackrabbits baseball team.

Playing career

Bishop enrolled at Jamestown College, to play college baseball for the Knights baseball team. As a senior in 1994, Bishop hit .439. [1] As a sophomore in 1992 and as a senior in 1994, Bishop was named a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-American. [2]

Coaching career

Bishop began his coaching career a graduate assistant for the South Dakota State Jackrabbits baseball team. [3] In 2000, Bishop received his first head coaching job at Huron University. In Bishop's lone season at Huron, he led the Screaming Eagles to a South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference (SDIC) title as well as was named the Coach of the Year. [4] Bishop then moved on to Miles Community College, who was reviving their baseball program. Bishop led Miles to a Mon-Dak Conference championship every season he was at Miles (2001–2010). [5] In the Fall 2010, Bishop was hired as the head baseball coach at the Montana State University Billings. [6]

On August 1, 2016, Bishop was named the head coach at South Dakota State. [7]

The South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference (SDIC) was an NAIA-associated collegiate athletic conference that ceased operations following the 1999–2000 academic school year when it merged with the North Dakota College Athletic Conference to form the Dakota Athletic Conference. The SDIAC was formed in 1917 from twelve schools, though membership was down to five during World War II, as the religious schools formed the South Dakota College Conference. Those schools joined back in by 1948. From 1995 to 2000 seasons, the league was known as the South Dakota-Iowa Intercollegiate Conference, thanks to the addition of Dordt and Westmar colleges in Iowa. Westmar closed in 1997. The SDIIC split in 2000, with half of the schools heading to the DAC, while the other half joined the Great Plains Athletic Conference.

Vern Albert McKee an American football and baseball player and coach. He spent two seasons playing Minor League Baseball the St. Louis Browns organization before embarking on a career in coaching and scouting. McKee served as the head football coach at Yankton College from 1960 to 1962 and Huron University from 1992 to 1993, compiling a career college football coaching record of 13–30–1. The Basin League was an independent collegiate minor league, that operated from 1953 to 1973, featuring teams primarily from South Dakota and one from Nebraska. The league name reflected the number of teams situated along the Missouri River Basin. The league roster structure evolved from having some professional players to totally being amateur. The Basin League was a pioneer of what is known today as collegiate summer baseball.

The 1921 South Dakota State Jackrabbits football team was an American football team that represented South Dakota State University as an independent during the 1921 college football season. In its third season under head coach Charles A. West, the team compiled a 7–1 record and outscored opponents by a total of 255 to 38.

Jimmy Rogers is an American football coach and former player who is currently the head coach for the South Dakota State Jackrabbits of the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC). After playing college football for the Jackrabbits, he served as a graduate assistant with them for two years before joining Florida Atlantic in 2012. He returned to South Dakota State in 2013 as linebackers coach, later receiving a promotion to defensive coordinator in 2019, the position he served in until being named head coach in 2023. He closed his first season as Jackrabbit head coach by leading his team to the NCAA Division 1 FCS National Championship in Frisco, TX, January 7, 2024.
