The Alberta New Democratic Party, is social democratic political party in Alberta, Canada. The party sits on the centre-left of the political spectrum and is a provincial Alberta affiliate of the federal New Democratic Party.

Rodrigo Alonso Loyola Salas is a Canadian politician who was elected in the 2015 Alberta general election to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta representing the electoral district of Edmonton-Ellerslie and re-elected on April 16, 2019. He won a third term on May 29, 2023. Loyola had previously contested the same seat for the same party in the 2012 Alberta general election. In 2014, prior to being elected as an MLA, he ran for leader of the Alberta New Democratic Party. He placed third in the 2014 Alberta NDP leadership race.
Shannon Rosella Phillips is a Canadian politician who was elected in the 2015, 2019, and 2023 Alberta general elections to represent the electoral district of Lethbridge-West in the 29th, 30th, and 31st Alberta Legislatures, respectively. She is a member of the Alberta New Democratic Party. On May 24, 2015, she was sworn in as the Minister of Environment and Parks and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women in the Alberta Cabinet. After the United Conservative Party formed government in 2019, she was succeeded by Jason Nixon and Leela Aheer. During the NDP government of 2015–2019, she also served as Minister Responsible for Climate Change and as the Deputy Government House Leader.

In its first general election contest, the Jason Kenney-led United Conservative Party (UCP) won 54.88% of the popular vote and 63 seats, defeating incumbent Premier Rachel Notley. The governing Alberta New Democratic Party (NDP) were reduced to 24 seats and formed the Official Opposition. The United Conservative Party was formed in 2017 from a merger of the Progressive Conservative Party and the Wildrose Party after the NDP's victory in the 2015 election ended nearly 44 years of Progressive Conservative rule.

The United Conservative Party (UCP), led by incumbent Premier Danielle Smith, won a majority of seats (49) and formed the government. The New Democrats, led by former Premier Rachel Notley, won the second most seats (38) and formed the official opposition.
