The Thouron Award is a postgraduate scholarship established in 1960 by Sir John R.H. Thouron,K.B.E.,and Esther du Pont Thouron. It was created to strengthen the "special relationship" between the United States and the United Kingdom through educational exchange between British universities and the University of Pennsylvania. Through the programme the Thourons sought to nourish and develop Anglo-American friendship by ensuring that,in the years to come,a growing number of the leading citizens of these two countries would have a thorough understanding of their trans-Atlantic neighbours. The Brigham–Kanner Property Rights Prize is awarded each Fall by the William &Mary Law School,at the Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Conference. The Conference and Prize were proposed in 2003 by Joseph T. Waldo,a graduate of the Marshall-Wythe School of Law with the support of the then Dean of the Law School,W. Taylor Reveley,III,who would later become president of the college. The Conference and Prize were inaugurated in 2004. The Conference and Prize are named after Toby Prince Brigham and Gideon Kanner for "their contributions to private property rights,their efforts to advance the constitutional protection of property,and their accomplishments in preserving the important role that private property plays in protecting individual and civil rights." Toby Prince Brigham is a founding partner of Brigham Moore in Florida. Gideon Kanner is professor of law emeritus at the Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. The Brigham-Kanner Prize is awarded annually during the Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Conference.

Clyde Wilson Summers was an American lawyer and educator who is best known for his work in advocating more democratic procedures in labor unions. He helped write the Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959 and was highly influential in the field of labor law,authoring more than 150 publications on the issue of union democracy alone. He was considered the nation's leading expert on union democracy. "What Louis Brandeis was to the field of privacy law,Clyde Summers is to the field of union democracy," wrote Widener University School of Law professor Michael J. Goldberg in the summer of 2010.
