Robert Saggers (born 5 August 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Sydney Swans and North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL).

Saggers, an Altona City recruit, made two appearances for Sydney late in the 1985 VFL season. [1] [2] A forward, he transferred to North Melbourne in 1986 and played three games for the club that year. [2] [3]

Sydney Swans

The Sydney Swans is a professional Australian rules football club which plays in the Australian Football League (AFL), having been a founding member of the competition since 1897. The club was originally established in 1874 as the South Melbourne Football Club, and played amongst other clubs based in Melbourne, Victoria. Australian rules football in New South Wales

Australian rules football has been played in New South Wales since the 1870s with strongholds in the Riverina, Broken Hill/Barrier region, the far south coast and a small but strong presence in the Newcastle and Hunter region. In other parts of New South Wales, it was, until more recent years, generally overshadowed in popularity as a winter sport by the rugby football codes. Until the 1980s, the sport had a small presence in Sydney. Its popularity is increasing northward, across what is known as the Barassi Line. 1996 AFL Grand Final

The 1996 AFL Grand Final was an Australian rules football game contested between the North Melbourne Football Club and the Sydney Swans, held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on 28 September 1996. It was the 100th annual Grand Final of the Australian Football League, staged to determine the premiers for the 1996 AFL season. The match, attended by 93,102 people, was won by North Melbourne by a margin of 43 points, marking that club's third premiership victory. North Melbourne were awarded a gold premiership cup instead of the usual silver in honour of the centenary grand final.
