Career
Born in Sunnyside, Queens, New York, he attended Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens, New York, graduating in 1988. In his senior year of high school, he won McDonald's High School All-American. During his college playing career at St. John's University, he became the all-time leader in career blocked shots. He was also a part of the team that won the NIT Championship in 1989, the Big East Championship in 1992, and reached the NCAA tournament three times. In his junior year, he won All-Big East Honors. While playing for St. John's, Werdann was third-team All-Big East as a junior. [1]
He was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the second round (46th overall) of the 1992 NBA draft. A 6'11" center from St. John's University, Werdann played in three NBA seasons. He played for the Nuggets and New Jersey Nets. He also played with the Harrisburg Hammerheads of the CBA. [1] In his NBA career, Werdann played in 47 games and scored a total of 101 points.
He later became an assistant coach with the New Orleans Hornets after earlier working for the team as a player scout for five years. [2] [3]
The Golden State Warriors named Robert Werdann an assistant coach for the 2010–11 season for head coach Keith Smart, along with Jerry Sichting, Calbert Cheaney, and Mark Price. In 2011, he became an assistant coach with the Charlotte Bobcats. [4] In 2013, he was coaching in Puerto Rico. [5] In October 2013, he was hired by the Idaho Stampede as an assistant coach for the 2013–14 season. [6] In 2014, Robert became the professional scout for the Detroit Pistons. In 2017, he was named the head coach of the Pistons' NBA G League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Drive. [7]
Lawrence Harvey Brown is an American basketball coach and former player who is currently an assistant coach of the Memphis Tigers. Brown is the only coach in basketball history to win both an NCAA national championship and an NBA title. He has a 1,275–965 lifetime professional coaching record in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA) and is the only coach in NBA history to lead eight teams to the playoffs. He also won an ABA championship as a player with the Oakland Oaks in the 1968–69 season, and an Olympic Gold Medal in 1964. He is also the only person ever to coach two NBA franchises in the same season. Before coaching, Brown played collegiately at the University of North Carolina and professionally in the ABA.
The Salt Lake City Stars are an American professional basketball team in the NBA G League based in West Valley City, Utah, and are affiliated with the Utah Jazz. The Stars play their home games at the Maverik Center. Prior to the move to Salt Lake City for the 2016–17 season, the team was known as the Idaho Stampede.
Chauncey Ray Billups is an American professional basketball coach and former player who is the head coach for the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played 17 seasons in the NBA. After playing college basketball with the Colorado Buffaloes, he was selected third overall in the 1997 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics. A five-time NBA All-Star, a three-time All-NBA selection and two-time NBA All-Defensive selection, Billups played for the Celtics, Toronto Raptors, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Clippers during his NBA career. He won the NBA Finals MVP in 2004 after helping the Pistons beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals, and was given the nickname "Mr. Big Shot" for making late-game shots with Detroit. The Pistons retired his No. 1 jersey in 2016.
